VR rendering problem w/Overseer DVD on WinME
Hi all. First, thanks for all the good info you give on setting up systems to play the Tex games. I've lurked this board for years, since the old board and now the new board, and you always have great fixes. I've looked all over the site for this one but can't find it anywhere. Please point me to the right post if I missed it.
Question: The VR rendering crashes the game and dumps me to the desktop. Is VR rendering a graphic driver component or a windows component?
My setup is a dual boot WinME/WinXP, AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1.79hz), 1G memory, DirectX8.1 (diagnostic ok), NVidia GeForce 6200 graphics card running 81.98 ForceWare (latest drivers), Overseer DVD with the 'tmos104 - update' patch, DVD Express (20mb), Elecard (MPGPL135). Want the game to run on WinME because I thought it would be easier and want to hear the MIDI files; not the same without it IMHO. (Regardless of the game I'm keeping the dual boot in case of XP system crash so I might as well use it.)
All suggestions are appreciated!
Summary of problem (more game details if you need them)
ME installation:
The video and sound run fine, it is only when I move from a video to VR rendering that I have the problem. When I first start the game it takes three VR passes to get me into Tex's office. Each pass goes up a percentage from about 56%, 76%, 100%. After that I'm in the game can walk around the office, pickup items, open drawers, etc. But, I can't get past the point were Tex looks at the magazine at the front door or Tex speaks with the daughter about the case. Both those events result in the video running. When it is time to VR render the office again, I'm dumped back to my desktop. I'm stalled at this point and can't continue the game.
XP test installation:
Just in case, I tried installing the game on XP. VR rendering works fine. I don't want to play it in XP because of course the MIDI won't play (bummer). There are other problems as well but I'm not worried about fixing those since the XP run is just a test.
Let me know if you need more info.
