Very cool news! From the trailer, the graphics look like it should be pretty cool. Hopefully its as creative and captivating as the first one.

I await hungrily.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
WOO-HOO! Thanks, Cub. One of my top ten games of all time has FINALLY been issued with what looks like a promising follow up. I must say Cub, you'll be hard pressed proving you're a bigger fan than me
I await Mafia 3 :D Hopefully it'll be set in the modern era so that I can do my whole Sopranos thing :D (and then Finnish the game inside a deli whilst eating onion rings :P) but yeah this game looks great and I'll most likely enjoy it because Mafia 1 was brilliant.
Yeah I agree Mafia was a brilliant game. What made it good was the fact they they chose to gradually absorb you into the story.

Many developers today make the mistake of thinking that throwing a gamer stright into the action is a good thing, but it does nothing to immerse the player in the story. I have grown tired of having no prologue type beginning to games anymore... and whilst the drone-headed mindless gamer might appreciate being air-lifted to a shooting spree within the frist 10 seconds of a game, a lot of gamers (such as myself and many others here I can only assume) like the idea of being able to gradually get to know the setting and the characters before getting into the nitty-gritty.

That's what made Mafia great... you felt something when you played that made you identify with the setting and the atmosphere and the characters.

I hope Mafia 2 is the same, and I hope it does not become as Ghetto-pretentious as the GTA series.

Great news! I am looking forward to this sequel. I love playing first Mafia game for PC. I still play it once in awhile.:D

My sentiments exactly. Mafia, The Godfather and Max Payne are the only three action games where I have actually cared about the characters and have become intrigued by the story enough to have late gaming sessions until midnight and finish the game in a week.

With Mafia, I was automatically intrigued with the arbitrary, everyday character who was just living his life. Then one day, he's one of the most dangerous and influential men in the city. It's the quintessential zero to hero (or zero to corruption) story but with the right substance to fill in the familiar areas. I felt a reasonable level of concern for the characters, looking over my shoulder as I was running away from the cops, hoped my wife and child would be safe and nearly shed a tear with the sudden death ending- this will be a tough act to follow. However, Mafia 2 does look promising.

As long as it introduces some new gameplay elements, doesn't blindly conform with GTA, has an amazing soundtrack and maintains the integrity for story and character, this is going to be amazing. The graphics are spectacular so far. We're 1 quarter of the way there.
I also add Aliens vs Predator 2 to that list - the first two Marine levels are without any enemies at all (just creepy sounds all around you, ghost trackings on the motion scanner, etc) Really eerie stuff.

Also, there's intros, cutscenes and plenty of storytelling being done within the singleplayer campaigns, and it's all neatly tied together. I love it.

I'm getting into Bioshock later today, am looking forward to it.

The press release says it's set in the late 40s and early 50s. So I'm guessing it will be a bit more political than the first game (I agree it's a brilliant game).

Oh and btw, I'm 6.5 hours into BioShock and it's awesome.
Man, I wish I could get into BioShock... but I'd need to upgrade my PC first.

Me too Cub. This was the first game that my computer has refused to run. It was a dark day.

Well my PC did not go as far as refusing to play it. It would just never get above 10 frames per second, making it like a slide show, or a very quick version of MYST.

My brother got it for his Xbox, but I just can't relaly play shooters on gamepads. It's justy to fiddly.

-Cub. =o)
Cub, I used to be the same way. Until Call of Duty 3 was released for consoles ONLY. At that point I decided I'd give it a real try, and after a short while you get over the fiddlyness and start kickin' ass and takin' names, just like you're used to with the keyboard and mouse combo.

I'm about... two, three hours maybe into Bioshock on the 360 now and I'm having a ball.

I haven't got my system upgraded since...wow 2004 or 2005? That shows how long it's been since I've seriously been keen on PC gaming. I think i'll return to PC gaming with Star Trek Online is released. I'll treat my PC to a hardware make-over when that day comes ;)
