I Won! I Won!!
Oh, yes!
It went off without a hitch! Ended up simply bringing the notebook along and running the kayboard through that via USB... just played the flute section on the right hand and fileld in a few strings on the left when the flute was not busy.
Only thing was, becuase of the poor quality of the soundcard that came with the notebook (some on-board thingo) I had to use DirectX's DirectSound engine to manage the MIDI latencies... which meant I had to learn the play the entire thing with a 50ms latency (becuase that was the best I could get without getting stutter and pop)... and so I made sure not to look at my hands when I performed the piece (becuase they were playing earlier than the sound was coming out)...
...all in all it was a great night. I did not pick up the songwriter of the year award.... but there were plenty of other highlights. I got a plaque and a trophy, which I might post up a pic of here soon. I am still waiting on my Zoom CD/HD mixer which was another prize for the category. Should be here soon enough.
Thanks for everyone's support! It's much apprecited! Especially St V. for all the technical help.
Next time I plan on having much better contingency now that I reliase that I can actually win these things!

Glad to hear things went well. I hope you were able to talk to some important people at the shindig.
50 ms latency is a little much even for me. I actually use Cubase VST 24 on an old G3 and the sound manager gets it to around 30, which I can work with (sort of). I'd have second thoughts about performing with that, so my hat (fedora?) is off to you, sir, even if it hadn't been already.
Congrats again on your success; it just warms the cockles.
STV
P.S. Did you do the thunderstorm and everything?

You want me to do this project? Well, here's the way it works:
Cheap, good, fast. Pick any two.
