I knew a friend who got her copy of Order of the Phoenix the night before one of her HSC exams (the big Kahuna High School Examinations here in Aus), and read it all that night until the wee hours of the morning then went straight into the exam without sleep!

Never read any of them, and vowed never to do so, although I find myself to interested in what happens in #7 that I am inclined to want to start from #1... but then again it wont be the same if I know what happens.

Oh well... the films are rather enjoyable, although #5 is probably not the best.

It's a good thing I'm not into HP. 'Cause if I were, I'd be so pissed right now. Beware youtube pranks - I went to click on a video called 'Dramatic Prairiedog Remix', but lo and behold, big fat letters spelling three magic words popped up - three magic words I believe would destroy the last book for any HP lover. Here's the link, but beware, HP spoilers lie within.

Eh, yeah, that's a spoiler, but there's no background or info about it. The devil is in the details!

Personally I think it would be mad cool if we find out that Harry Potter is actually a real boy living in an energy cocoon, and this entire fantasy was actually just all in his head. The more ruckus he caused with his magic the more energy he produced. The robotic A.I. that eventually takes over in the future is using him for a battery to prolong their life.

Totally original!
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
They should take that idea and make a good movie about it and then make two bad sequels that taint how good the first movie was.

Ya'know, just throwing ideas out there.

Or they could just say fork it.. Why don't we just try to rip-off William Gibson. :D

I assume you are talking about the Matrix.
The book was amazing, nuff said. I'm quite satisfied as a someone who has been reading them since the 2nd hit the shelves.

Spoilers for those of you who have yet to see the 5th film, but if you've read the book it does not really matter...

I Order of the Phoenix I was VERY disappointed at how Cho Chang was pretty much completely taken out of the picture as soon as Dumbledore's Army was found out. Let me explain:

In the book I've been told it was Cho's friend who ratted them out... but in the film it was Cho (Snape used truth serum on her). Also in the book there were details on how awkward the situation with her and Harry had become because she could not get over Cedric's death in Goblet of Fire, but once again this was left out of the film.

And so here is how I saw thing progress in the film (because I had not read the book): Harry and Cho fall for one another, romance flies (perhaps the beginnings of love?) then apparently Cho tells snape about their secret club... they all hate her guts for it (including Harry)... they all then find out it was not her fault, it was Snape who made her do it... but instead of having any making up, we never see Cho again and Harry completely forgets about her.

Now as I said I have been told there is much more closure in the books, but I found that this particular scenario was handled very poorly in the film, because book or not you NEVER just cut the lines of potential romance completely without some kind of closure.

That's what irked me.

I hated her anyway :D. In my opinion she was only a love interest to get all the Japanese school girls crazy about Harry. Harry should have ended up with Hermonie instead of Ron's sister but I guess JK went for the non-clice romance. :P

I think they seriously need to remake the games again though. Every single one is terrible and could have done a better job at potraying the book better than the films could. Blame EA for that. At least then they wouldn't be limited to 2 hours to tell the story.

Still 7 novels is a pretty damn good effort for a franchise. It is really a shame that the games sucked :D
Well the only trouble with that idea is that she is Chinese... and if you wanted to get Japanese girls crazy, you would not use a Chinese character... plus I don't think JK had the "Japanese Schoolgirl" market in mind when writing the books. I tend to lean towards the fact that JK wanted a non-cliché romance... but obviously this choice was bound to irk some people (you for example :P ).

But heck, I also reckon (and this is just a theory of mine) that when JK started writing the beginning of this romance between Harry and Cho in the 4th book there was probably some kind of negative backlash against the idea of romantically involving these two characters (for whatever reason, perhaps not many people could tolerate the idea, I don't know) and that's why she was gradually written out (or doomed from the beginning). I mean, lets face it, in many people's opinions she would not be considered the model partner for Harry... which is kind of sad if put that way. And so she settled with romantically involving Harry with Ginny... a safe bet bound not to irk the intolerant.

...but again, that's just a theory of mine.

As for the games, most of the movie games are terrible anyway... they are released in record time and built souly for the purpose of making more money off the franchise. Remember; most of the market that snaps these games up are not the more "mature" gamers, and would know nothing about the quality (or lack thereof) in EA titles in particular.

I just finished the 7th book myself about 20 minutes ago.

What an incredible end to an amazing story.
