I actually disagree with this type of thinking. The fact is you're living in a Westernised country where we do have an abundance of fuel, water, medical aid and food. We have call centres, businesses, politicians, doctors, lawyers etc...you shouldn't have to think about the third world because as an Australian you are entitle to a level of service and care that most other countries wouldn't get, not to mention the fact that you're a paying member of your Insurance Firm. As an Australian, you have the right to demand service because that's what sets us apart from countries who do have less. Now i'm not getting on my hight horse here saying "tough luck" to the third world countries, but the point i'm trying to make is that as long as you're in a country that prides itself on service and care, take advantage of it.

When I hear "well, i could be caught up in Hurracine Catrina, going bankrupt, disease stricken etc..." i feel like i'm back in my Primary School classroom where the teachers over-simplify and overly moralise the most trivial things. By the way, that's nothing against you, Cub, i'd just like to think that you're getting everything you can out of this situation rather than sitting on the fence in the interests of decency while getting screwed over by the suits at the top.

Absolutely... You paid your Premiums, you deserve Service... Complain until you are blue in the face and they are red with embarrassment... Nail their ass to the wall for treating you like that, taking your car without so much as a knock on the door saying "Hey, We're Taking Your Car"...

Well here are the pics of the incident:












...as you can see, the roof got dented in, nothing too major, but a bitch to fix as they would need to cut and weld in a new piece. The reason why this could not be beaten out is because the framing underneath the roof is also bent, and the back window frame has also changed shape, which would make re-fitting a rear window almost impossible, not the mention how expensive rear windows are. Back seats were damp from the rain as well.

It was nothing that you would not pay to fix on a newer car... but seeing as I got the car for $4,000 6 years ago, and the insurance company gave me $2,800 for it today, a $1,200 loss over 6 years is bloody good.


Anyway, I GOT A NEW CAR!





She's a pretty sweet ride, and I am back to manual which is a lot of fun.


Even though I am sad my old car is gone, the crisis over and I can get back to enjoying the long holiday weekend!

I agree with you 100%. However, I think that's just something people say when they're trying to be postive in an uncontrollably bad situation.

Yep, I think its fair to say that's enough damage to warrent the vehicle being unroadworthy. Nice to see that you're back on your feet there, Cub. We'll have to start calling you "Even Steven"

I'm just about to get out of the independent contractor business at DHL...I'll sell you my van for what I owe.....I can't promise you it will last more than a year, but it's got some sweet ass DHL decals on the side and it comes with a tape deck. I'm not helping am I?
