Well regardless what the news is going to be, we the loyal fans will be here for it. No matter how many times we've had our hopes dashed, we keep coming back for more. Just like our hero, we are not quitters.

George Michael? Seriously? Shhiiiiiiiit.

But back to the thread. I don't blame Aaron in that I think he has done any wrong by the fans. With each update he gives us, it's always the assurance that a cog or two is in motion and that is done with his heart in the best of places. But at the same time, if he were to logon and say something to the effect of, "look guys, I just think this thing is grounded for life" i'd definitely be sad but at the same time relieved that the roller coaster ride of anticipation has ended.

But I still trust Aaron and Chris. I've never seen a developer or artist of any kind in any field be this close with his or her fans. Seriously, i'm at a point now that if he were to declare defeat, i'd just be happy to have the guys as regular members because I just think of them as one of us since they want precisely what we do.

But, fingers still crossed as always.

Being relativly new to this forum I havent had the rolercoaster ride like the rest of you had, i got back to tinking about the Tex games just a few years ago. Still i would love a game to come out, but im not holding my breath. If just a book comes along i would pick it up in a heart beat, even though i have dyslexia and havent really read a book in english since my days in the airforce.

The way i see this it, its a good way to be updated with the possabilety of a new game or just a conclution to the saga. But moresow and friendley forum to talk with other fans of the series.

even though its over 10 years since a game came out i could easaly wait another 10 years.. it doesent really mather much, as long as its good. cause im not really waiting.

maybe we should all hound RandomManA for an answer after all he added tex voice to the end of his review video so he must asked what tex being at big finish games.com sooner than you think
was all about.

I don't think we need to hound him. I think we just need to have some patience.

I don't think they'd tease us with that "sooner than you think" stuff unless there was something pretty darn concrete regarding Tex, and certainly more than watching him blow out candles on a birthday cake!

We know Aaron Conners has been working on a new book. We know Big Finish been looking at making a new game. With any luck, this will be a few chapters from the book, maybe more. It'll be the most concrete evidence to us fans to date of their devotion to bring Tex back. Isn't that worth waiting for?

If RandomManA's review of Overseer is any indication, rushing a product simply to please someone lowers the quality of the product. If there is to be a new Tex game, and it is to be a good game, they need to take their time during development to make sure they get everything right because, if it's not, they've blown an opportunity and may not get another one.

Admittedly, there is no guarantee their efforts will ever result in another Tex game. As stated by others, there have been numerous times that what seemed like was going to bring Tex back fell apart after a hinting announcement was made.

But, all these things give Chris and Aaron experience of what works and what doesn't work, and their communications with us reflect that learning process because they talk to us differently now than they did 5 years ago. They aren't as quick to give us good news anymore because they don't want to tell us things are going well, only to tell us later they're back to square one.

They've learned from their failures, which will make this announcement different. This announcement will be a confirmation that the wait, the hope, the desire for a new game, won't have been for nothing; that Project Fedora's disappearing from Big Finish's site back early 2010 or thereabout was it going "underground" instead of scrapped; and that Tex will make his way back like so many others before him (Sam & Max, Monkey Island, dare I say Duke Nukem, etc.).

A loyal Tex Murphy fan,

Hammerhead

I just put Tex on the Path of Broken Dreams...damn those scenes at the Flamingo are emotional. Pandora is such a joy to play, it's embarrassing how much of the dialogue I still remember.

Now it wouldn't be the book as do you all remember aaron stated he would post a couple of chapters here for us to read, which I must add that hasn't happened. Unless aaron forgot he told us that.

Jen, I don't know how you could do that to tex & yourself its such a upsetting path.

Its worth it for how amazing Chris portray's "Evil" Tex.. He is an amazing actor. Very very deep and the music used was really unexpected, I mean, we never had something of this quality done in a video game before with that level of emotion. More of that please! :D

Yes! It's on the Path of Broken Dreams where I think where Chris first shows that he is evenly matched against the professional actors he's working with. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the quips and the wonderful sense of humor that the games have, but there's a reason why on the AFI's top rated movies of all time, there are only a few comedies. Tex is the PERFECT protagonist. He is flawed, feels slightly out of place in society, but is lovable and has a wonderful lack of egotism. To see him show weakness along with his dark side, is both intriguing and vicariously satisfying in a way that is hard to describe.

Yes Cyber, I agree, more please!

I know I've been vocal recently, but I hope I haven't alienated anyone, because it is simply my passion for the genre. Regarding the comments I've read about Aaron I'd rather him slowly whittle away at whatever sized wooden block it is than feel pressured into making a watered down game that wouldn't have content.

As a hardcore gamer I'm really not for episodic gaming and wish Telltale would just make full games. And that's for one reason that I've previous stated: linear continuity. However if worse comes to worse I'd accept that format for Tex if it imported a saved game file from the last completed episode before starting the next one.

What I'm saying is if I buy Day 5 I don't want it to mean I've done everything I needed to do in Days 1-4 by default. There's also not just adventure gameplay continuity to be taken into consideration there's the Tex persona continuity as well

Some comments have been made that Chris and Aaron aren't as big in the industry as Tim so they shouldn't do Kickstarter for that reason. Even if that's true I don't think that's a valid reason for not doing something. Like I said progress is progress.

Not true, its more to do with the fact that Chris and Aaron are known for their "Film" approach to game development, which can be much more expensive. Whereas Tim is more known for his "Cartoon" approach which is considerably cheaper to do now.

It has nothing to do with IPs or History really. The fact of the matter is, Chris and Aaron are going to need a LOT more than what Tim needed. It wasn't expected for Tim to even get more than $300,000... People are misunderstanding why its made as much as it has, its got nothing to do with Kickstarter, it has more to do with the fact that they know Tim can pull this off within budget.

If Aaron and Chris can pull it off with an under-estimated budget (as in, much much lower than they were expecting to get from it) then more people would happily support it. Its more to do with the fact that it is a major gamble for all of us, not just Aaron and Chris but for the consumer as well, because there's no 100% assurance that this can be done within budget.

Because of how little Tim was asking for, I'd argue that's why we saw the responce. Tim went into this wanting to produce something cheap- people knew that it was feasible, so they threw money at it.. Now Tim can make it even better.

I believe in Aaron and Chris and Adrian and everyone involved in Tex. Aaron has said that he is writing a book to sort out all the answers we would want. But doing that takes time, and on top of that he has a full time job.

It will take time to get it all sorted and you don't want to give spoilers away while you're doing it - you want people to be excited at the right time and to want to know the answers at the right time. If we knew the story now we wouldn't buy the book in a year's time.

You've also got to accept that the gaming industry has seen a huge upheaval in the last couple of years - Nintendo have been struggling to sell games for £30 because people can now buy game for 69p on their phone. Getting it right is not easy even for the big guys out there.

We will hear news when its ready and not a moment before, and I will be in the queue to buy whatever we are offered.

If you ask me Nintendo's biggest problem is managing intellectual property. They never should have let go of Squaresoft and Rare. I would have used Rare to make more James Bond games with each upcoming movie. Now they can't really use Banjo, Geno, Mallow, and certain Donkey Kong characters anymore.

While I'll probably buy it I don't see myself reading the Tex book anytime soon. I want to hold out until the next game.

Square wanted to leave because they could not make the games they wanted on a cartridge medium.

I think them leaving Nintendo was for the best.
FF7 never would have been as good otherwise.
