Kickstarter Reward Restricitons

I'm still worried about this one. As a backer of Lilly Looking Through, I received this update:

"In hopes of creating some fun we announced a "Goggles Giveaway" in our last update. A backer was kind enough to inform us that Kickstarter may not allow a drawing. So we immediately emailed Kickstarter, and asked for some clarification. We just got an email back from Kickstarter telling us that contests/drawings are against their guidelines.

So unfortunately, we can't do the "Goggles Giveaway" drawing. We would like to formally apologize to our backers for our mistake. We would also ask that you adjust your pledges based on this new information."

Its possible Kickstarter thought they meant a contest/raffle as an actual reward that you pledge for with no guarantee of getting anything.

Kickstarter do tend to give copy-paste answers sometimes. If you ask them can you donate with anything other than a credit for example they will usually just say "no". Even though Tim Schafer found out they also accept prepaid cards like Ukash etc.

I wonder if the changes to the drawing are to make backers happy to to avoid getting punished by Kickstarter for violations?

They'll respond either way. It just takes them time to catch up on all the messages they get. Sometimes it'll take them 5 minutes other times 5 hours or more. Occassionally some messages slip through the cracks and you can resend if that happens as I have done that before and then gotten a responce (similar to when they were on Reddit and asking people to repost questions).

D'oh, I was too slow to edit. :( I had dumped my whole post before that that after I saw the new update. Apparently they did listen to someone about something.
Looks like they responded in an update. I hope Kickstarter don't just give a generic answer and say no just at the very mention of "raffle". As soon as you mention "can I pledge without a credit card" for example they just glance and say "no" rather than including the fact you can use a prepaid card and other methods which is why I did the payment guide.

I'm thinking a stretch goal could be a dinner date with one of the gorgeous Fedora Femme Fatales. I'm kinda running out of ideas, but that could put us over 60,000 pretty quickly.

Thank you for your patience. We contacted Kickstarter and they were very understanding to our situation and our misunderstanding. The Tex Murphy - Memorabilia giveaway will continue as intended. We had a great day today and can't wait to finish out the last 30 hours!

Oh.... PHEW! :lol: I'm... I'm so relieved.

I really hope Kickstarter bothers to clarify their rules as a result. The rule they have written is so terse it's really hard to tell what it means.
