150 pledge tier is confusing me a bit

It's the announcing of DLC before the game even comes out that bothers people. It makes it seem like you're thinking "Hey, we got all these great ideas to put into the game, but it'd be nice to make a little extra money so instead of putting it all in the game like we previously would have, now lets just charge extra for it."

As for MK's DLC, people were rather pissed at them at the start when they had retailer exclusive DLC (Costumes) that meant you couldn't get it all unless you bought the game at gamestop, walmart, best buy AND amazon... Or bought someone's code off of ebay.

The biggest problem with DLC in my mind, is actually the fact that it won't always work. DLC always comes with DRM meaning at the very least you'll have to authenticate it with a server at some point. In 10 years the "Project Fedora DLC server" likely won't still be running which means you no longer have access to that part of the game. Imagine if UAKM, Pandora Directive, or Overseer had used this for part or all of the game, we no longer would be able to use our old discs to play it again and THAT would suck.

I have games I have downloaded from steam & I backup to dvd, saves having to download them again. Steam have a menu to allow you to do this.
You still have to authenticate the game with Steam's server. They make it look like nothing which is probably why you never noticed it. Sometime, try unplugging your computer from the internet (Turn off WiFi or unplug the cable) and try installing that game and playing it.

To be fair to Valve however, they have stated that they have a failsafe built in that if they ever go out of business it will be the last thing they do, unlocking the games from the servers. How true that is, well, we'd have to wait for Steam to go under to find that out for certain.
yes you are right you need to setup steam application to reinstall game but if you have backed up the game you don't have to redownload, and of course if steam goes down you have no game.
I prefer to buy of gog first but if they don't have the game then I use steam.

Yeah, that's the problem with it. Doing it during a Kickstarter and putting the DLC at $150 exacerbates it.

I blame EA. They must've brainwashed Aaron into thinking this is normal, or put a chip in his head.
Personally, I've never been a real big fan of DLC to begin with. I know it's probably been around much longer than my example, but the first time I encountered it was with Dragon Age: Origins. Most of them seem like rushed, tacked on things to begin with that don't even begin to come close to having the quality match the asking price. The last one they did, with Morrigan, was just dreadful, and the ending my character had with it (since she was my character's love interest), was terrible as well.

Spoilers ahead if you haven't played the DLC, but my character romanced Morrigan, loved her attitude, and just everything about her. He even had her loving him back before she decided to take off with his child. So it all boils down to you finding her in front of this mirror that acted as a transport device between the cave you were in and god knows where ... she threatens to disappear forever and you can never follow her ... she's a real bitch the whole conversation, even though the two were lovers ... then you get an option that says you want to go with her. Then suddenly the bitchiness switches off like someone turned off a light, and she says "ok!" in so many words. You both disappear into the mirror. Credits roll ... .... ... WTF?!? And I paid for that.

I guess my point is that the reason I, and probably many other people aren't too into the DLC fad is that a lot of companies (not all ... rockstar's DLC for GTA4 was well worth it) just don't match the quality to the price for a DLC. If I paid 40 bucks for, let's say Fallout: New Vegas ... with literally almost 100 hours of gameplay ... why would I pay 15 bucks for 6 more?

Just my opinion I guess.

I think that in hindsight they hinted to this in the RetroNick interview. But it was kind of muddled with another question. Back then I felt that the answer had crossed over with what higher tiers would offer. But was never sure. I think the question asker meant to say "stretch goals" rather than "tiers" past the goal so overall it was a bit confusing and the audio broke up a lot.
RetroNick: if you reach your goal or target are you going to have tiers and if so would they add either more endings or HD across different formats etc.

Chris Jones: One of the things we talked about was servicing different formats. But also additional game content, we would like to build that in. In terms of maybe some different endings that way, obviously in addition to our already planned multiple endings. But also additional content for those who donate a little bit more, so that, so we can really show those who have made a sacrifice that there are a little better rewards for those who kick in a little more. Things like that.

I feel it's possible some big fans of the series sent in incentive ideas which suggested additional game content and easter eggs as a donation reward to fans, since they would be the most likely to "sacrifice" more to learn more about the characters. But I am glad and admire how quickly they dropped the idea since, even on this forum, there are fans who would love to know more about the characters but different situations in income limit their pledge. Again I'm certain they had good intentions with it though and likely something in responce to incentive ideas.

I thought that it'd of fit better perhaps between the $15 - $30 tiers. Since most bonus DLC is maybe an extra $5 - $10 above the initial game price (whereas in the tiers it was placed $135 above). But I think the solution they went with (considering the extra content was pre-planned) was the best solution.

I think it'd of been awesome to of gotten a preview of the Kickstarter page rewards and layout plan on UTM for feedback and find out what people would like to see added, but likely they wanted it to all be a big surprise. It's great they were quick to respond to feedback though and got it changed on the very first day.

to clear the name of DLC, it needs to be renamed back to add-on, forget all this "new costumes/exclusive weapons" bullshit and bring back some actual story development

see? maybe aaron is not so bad
perhaps, you could ask chris about whose idea that was and whether he was aware of its doubtfulness in the upcoming chat session

Hmm, it's hard to tell who was responsible. One works for EA, the worst DLC offender, and the other is a CEO with a finance background!

AC did say this some time ago:
Just wanted everyone to know that we've had some spirited conversations whether or not to offer the DLC (even prior to the Kickstarter launch) and it's about to become a moot point. Chris and I will be making an announcement later today that, due to the negative perception of this reward, we'll be removing it from the list and replacing it with another prize.
"spirited conversations"? Hmm. What does that mean? But I guess it's a moot point now, as he says. Whoever was right about this gets to rub it in the other's face and brag about it forever, I suppose.
I don't want to bring it up during chat; the mistake might've cost them thousands, and that's painful. Better let it heal, I guess.

I still love and respect them and I want to literally pet them both like kitties. :-3

Oh, and I'm sorry about yelling earlier, everyone! I was just... upset.

Yeah the only three letter acronyms in the chat should be LOL!
