So excited and sooo ashamed :(

Only, back then you called yourself "ooMiFoo"....

Seems I recall seeing you in the old days too ;)
This has been my Kickstarter theme song all along:

Don't sit there mumblin', talkin' trash
If you wanna have a ball
You gotta spend some cash
Let the good times roll, let the good times roll
I don't care if you're young or old
Get together, let the good times roll

Welcome back to the ye old faces that have vanished throughout the years. Tex always found a way to get us all together somehow, for well over a decade. He also managed to attract wonderful new faces, and we all hope that the future gameS will continue to do so!

Speaking of old faces, I saw Mark (Marlowe) lurking around a few nights ago. Speak up, damnit! I miss the late night talks, speculating about every Radio Theater episode release!

Heh, yep. The old guard... been around since 1997. Far from being a "lurker" though, lol!

Welcome back!

How many of us remember the old Matthew Buckstein site we used to visit B4 UOTM? Now THAT is going back a long way!

Seems to me there was another board we frequented as well but the name slips my ever failing memory. Matt, James and the Demonlawyer would know. Probably Jen too except she was probably a kid back then. You're so young, Jen.

I think the old matthew site was called alcatraz & the other may have been genocities which closed sometime last year or maybe the year before that.

There was the OLD TexMurphy.com with the black motif and yellow text. It seemed to have a ton of tech questions back then.... ah the old configuring of IRQ, DMA's and such. I don't even remember it having a board format, more like a simple blog like feel to it.
There was the Tex Murphy Ring, no? I seem to recall it had quite a few sites attached to it. Texmurphy.com is where I started, even though Stefan indeed mostly had technical threads. DV's kid showed up there to make some unofficial announcements, which much later proved to be the flash animations.

Who had a website with text adventures in it? She had a few games written down, if I'm not imagining things.

I think the only place I got any info was here, I remember seeing an email address for someone called james when I was stuck with alien abductor getting through the fan. I was so stoked that james replied to my email within a hour or so. I really thought at the time I would not get any reply back.

Here's how it all panned out...

1998: The last time we saw Tex Murphy...

Friday 8th May 1998: TexMurphy.com is launched! It's forum, however, was quite cumbersome to use, and had no archival system which meant older posts were deleted after a certain date.

This is the earliest screenshot I can get, and as far back as those forums will go (Hi Jim!):

Image

1998: The Unofficial Tex Murphy web site is launched. James creates his own forums using the eZboard system.

September 1998: Matthew Buckstein creates Alcatraz site. Chris Marsland creates Coit Tower website. Chris creates his own eZboard forum. Matthew links his site to Chris' forum.

1999: Everybody gradually begin to populate the Coit Tower message board making it the most popular TM discussion hub. Some begin frequenting the UTM forum.

2001: TexMurphy.com discontinued. Coit Tower website receives its last update, yet still remains the most popular online forum for Tex Murphy. James Refurbishes Unofficial Tex Murphy website (version 2.0).

2002: Due the the amount of Spam Chris Marsland's eZboard forums were getting, over the next couple of years everybody began filtering here to UTM as the main forum for Tex Murphy.

2003: Coit Tower Discontinued, forum abandoned. James changes UTM forum to PHPBB system.

2005: James refreshes UTM design (version 3.0).

2008: James refurbishes UTM site (version 4.0, aka today's version). Adopts a new PHPBB forum, which is the one we use today. Integrates forum into the main component of the website.

2012: Tex Murphy begins his triumphant return!

Being such a chronicler of history, are you able to suss out my first appearance? I have no clue, except that I know I was on the previous boards before we all migrated here.

Spammed that one too, as I recall.

And this is where someone links me a clip from UAKM, with Melahn Tode saying "I'd like to help you, but I can't." in that airhead, mechanical, I'm-sure-you're-nothin'-but-a-sexdroid, cold, emotionless bimbo delivery.

Not that I'm implying you're an airhead, mechanical robot-bimbo, Cub. Your love of bunnies dispute any such claims outright!

What I do remember is that at least Jim, Cub and Jen were all there before I was, and they went beyond making me feel welcome.

You guys made me feel home! And I will forever be eternally grateful for that.

-Fred

PS: Or is that "bimbot"..?
Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Fred, I can only trace you back to 05/21/03... anything earlier would've been on the old Coit Tower eZboard forums... which have unfortunately been stripped from the archives. They used to be on file, but now they seem to have disappeared!

Game over man!

I don't know when I started posting. It was definitely before the current board but I don't recall when it was, since I was always an infrequent poster.
I can't remember when I first signed up, but I know I lurked for a bit. Once I came out of the shadows I was amazed at how friendly and welcoming everyone was. It was (and still is) very unlke many other message boards out there.
