I remember that in English class along with alliteration, simile, and hyperbole. I think it's a writing device used to describe something but am not exactly sure.

At last! I get to use my English minor!

Onomatopoeia. I remember that! I didn't even need to cheat and look it up.

Onomatopoeia refers to words that sound like the sound they define. For example:

-- hiss
-- BANG!
-- screech (the sound, not the "Saved By The Bell" character)
-- BOOM!
-- rumble

I know that joke!

Here's another punch line from a "punny" joke:

"Rudolph, the Red, knows rain, dear."

 My favorite punchlines are those that end with those punny lines. Here's one I always remember:

A lion awoke early one morning to the sound of tiny birds chirping. He turned his head this way and that so he could see where the annoying sounds were coming from. To his dismay, he found that some bird had built a nest in his mane, and he'd just now noticed it because her eggs had hatched!

He shook his great head over and over, trying to dislodge the nest, but it was no use. The little birds just tweeted the louder, and the mother bird started poking him all over to get him to stop. Then he tried washing it out, but hating water as cats often do, that was more torturous for him than for the birds.

He resolved to try to live with it, but after a few days, bags formed under his majesty's eyes as his sleep patterns failed to conform to the birds' erratic feeding times. He'd had enough. So he sought out the wise one of the jungle, the old baboon, who advised him to sprinkle yeast into his hair. That sounded strange, and he was afraid the birds would just make a snack of it, but by now he was desperate enough to try anything. So before going to bed that night, he sprinkled in the yeast.

It was late the next afternoon that he awoke, and not because of the birds -- they were gone without a trace! He ran to the baboon to thank him, and as soon as he saw him he asked, "How did you know that such an odd solution would do the trick?"

The baboon replied, "Yeast is yeast, and nest is nest, and never the mane shall tweet."

Here's another punny punchline. Let's see if anyone remembers the joke (of course, I do). . .

"Silly rabbi, kicks are for Trids."

Are your parents still alive??? If so then you are still somebody's kid, so you can rest your mind at ease and enjoy a fruity bowl of Trix...

I just kind of feel for the rabbit. I mean he's tried so hard and been through so much, just give him some Trix already.

I agree. That rabbit never did anything bad to them. They should have given him some.

I knew that hanging out with that bird would be a bad influence on him.
