Bjyman: It's about an Albuquerque highschool science teacher who is grossly overqualified for his job, who gets lung cancer. Terminal, they tell him.

So he decides to make some serious cash to leave to his family. And starts cooking crystal meth with a former student of his. And from there on out things get... complicated. Considering, among other things, that his brother-in-law is a DEA agent.

It is AWESOME. But you need to see it from the start. Trust me on this one.

Bjyman wrote:Without giving too much away, can someone tell me what Breaking Bad is about?

A high school chemisty teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer goes into business with a former slacker student manufacturing crystal meth to raise enough money to provide for his family's future before his death.

Acting and scripting is second to none.

Well here is something I just discovered.

Did you know that Vince Gilligan was a writer for the X-files?
He didn't write any of the mythology episodes, but his episodes were still pretty good.

He directed a few as well.
He must have met Bryan Crangston on set, cause he wrote the episode Drive, which he starred in.

Anyway, just a little tid bit.

"I'm a Blowfish!!!!!"

"Hey YO!!! Mr White! Yea.... Science yo!"

He wrote a few of my favorite X file shows. 8)

"Look, Skylar, I just haven’t quite been myself lately. I haven’t been myself lately, but I love you. Nothing about that has changed, and nothing ever will. So right now, what I need is for you to climb down out of my ass. Can you do that? Will you do that for me, honey? Will you please, just once, get off my ass. You know, I’d appreciate it. I really would." - Walt

Breaking Bad may be well scripted, well acted and extremely popular, but let's be honest here: the subject matter is indicative of the times we live in. And, adding another 2 cents, shows like that have a negative effect on the populace as a whole. I, like many others, firmly believe that the entertainment industry has had an adverse affect on people in general, especially our young ones. "You are what you eat" could be ammended to "You are what you watch (or, read)". Again, just my 2 cents.

Jim, sorry, but I have to say this.

Lighten up. The show is not meant for younger viewers and parents shouldn't be letting their kids watch it.

That is why it is airing at 2AM.

I myself have to tape it.

Jesse: "What's the point of being an outlaw if I gotta have responsibilities?"

Badger: "Darth Vadar had responsibilities- building the Death Star."

Skinny Pete: True Dat! Two of 'em, Yo! "

I agree, it's not for children, but what I watch on TV or read does not define who I am or how I behave.

"What are you offering me?"
"What did Tom Hagen do for Vito Corleone?"
"I'm no Vito Corleone..."
"No sh*t? Right now, you're Fredo."

I love this show! Gimme my FIX already!

Also, the reason the show is so good is because it feels so real.

As in this could really happen based on today's state of affairs.

I feel tv is more influenced by the state of affairs rather than the other way around.

I've recently started watching Sons of Anarchy. Not a bad show.

I heard that was good too.

We have a friend that rants and raves about it.

Haven't tried it out yet.
Too many shows and not enough time.

We are currently watching the entire x-files series.
3 quarters of the way through season 3 right now.
Just finished piper maru and apocripha.

Watching breaking bad.
Finishing up season 2 tonight.

Wife likes MTV's My Life As Liz.
Teen Mom (I sleep during this one)
Biggest Loser

The Event starts in March now too.

Wanted to get into V but the wife won't miss Biggest Loser for a sci fi show she probably wouldn't like.

Necro'd the thread just cause it's the last hurrah for 2 out of the 3, and I saw Lestat's BB post. So sad to see both of these shows coming to a close. I have high hopes that they will leave us satisfied at the end.

Fingers crossed that it's a wicked ride!
