The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it

Just come back from seeing Wall-E. And I must say it is Pixar's best ever animated feature. Almost immediately after seeing the film I just wanted to rewind and watch it all again!

Afterwards we had a chat with director Andrew Stanton and I asked him; with all the technology we have now and how we are getting closer to being photorealistic how Pixar has still managed not to get swept up with the photorealism (or at least know when to draw the line despite being presented with so much more technology) which has usually been the demise of a lot of attempts with 3D animation. He said (and I totally agree) that if you want to be photorealistic then just shoot it for real (after which I added "That's not what Lucas said"... and he had a good laugh). He said hey have taken advantage of advancements in the technology, but only to help bring the audience closer to the story (such as in the physics and the environments)... but have kept the characters and comedy very much in the scope of an animation.

I think what he said relates directly to the debate we have had over FMV versus CG in games, and the future of Tex Murphy in particular. I think that if you want to go CG, then treat it as CG and go along that tangent, because if you are going to try and be photo real, just film it.

All in all I found Wall E to be a thought provoking love story, and enjoyed how the underlying message was that love fixes everything. And to be told this message through a series of characters who emote in their actions and speak very little was an amazing achievement. So far the best animated film I've seen yet.

Wall-E definitely was incredible. It's also the only Pixar film that I can think of that features real actors shown on screen, not animated. Recordings maybe, but actual footage spliced into an animated environment.

You're right.

What was particularly interesting about that is that Pixar's animated humans are always cartoonish. But what they did in WALL-E was a bit ironic. In the story, the "live" humans were cartoonish-looking animated characters. But the "not-live" humans (the ones we see on TV screens and recordings) look real.

I liked WALL-E a lot, but I'd still put it behind Toy Story and The Incredibles. But that's just me.

Also, I went to see The Dark Knight again last night. My forth time, I think.

Indeed. And I asked about that and he said that they chose to do that becuase of the irony... basically that the older generation of humans in the film were to be organic and slowly replaced by the digital versions, which is kind of a stab against technology in general, particularly in films.

Brewster's Millions... A Classic Richard Pryor film... HBO has been playing it a lot lately for some reason...
For those who haven't seen it, Pryor plays a Minor League Pitcher who Inherits Millions from a Relative he didn't know existed... But in order to get the Whole Inheritance he has to Spend 30 Million Dollars in 30 days, and he isn't allow to have any Assets to show for it in the end... He also isn't allowed to tell anyone that he has to spend the 30 Million...
It also has John Candy in it, one of his first movies back in the 80s... Very funny movie...

Oh man, they used to play that movie every Christmas when I was a kid, and then it just stopped airing. I was thinking about it a few days ago, actually.

Now I want to see it again!

I don't really like most Christmas movies. Wanna know what's my favorite Christmas movie? Die Hard. Oh yeah. Second favorite? Die Hard 2. Third favorite? National Lampoons: Christmas Vacation.

All 3 very good movies too... I don't care for the sappy type Christmas movies, you know the kind they play on the Lifetime Network or the Hallmark Channel...

Still A Christmas Story is a Classic, TBS runs it for 24 hours every year starting at 8pm EST on Christmas Eve...

As a person who loves Christmas movies I would say A Christmas Story is one of my least favorites. I do recognize it as a classic however.

tex murphy is back in town
I liked Death Sentence up until the attack on the guys house. Then it all became hokey and the copy chick became retarded. But up until then it was pretty cool.

1408 and Death Sentence were both good movies... I have to agree with Racer about how Death Sentence got a little funky near the end, but it was still a good movie...
I could see myself doing something along the same lines if some gang member were to kill someone in my family and the police were unable to do anything... If I lost a child I would probably snap just like he did...
