Tex Murphy teasers

Another idea to restore Tex would be just making a demo CD with actors and a sliver of gameplay from the trilogy to show what a full blown Tex game would look like to generate interest like they do in between the seasons of 24. What do you think?
Nah. It'd be just as effective to write up the whole design document rather than develop teasers. When you pitch an idea in the industry it is a lot different than what you'd think. A design document is essential when pitching the idea - then a tech demo. You can't use promotional stuff unless you've got some heavy evidence to back it up hence the Design Document. If anything that'd be the best way to pitch the game.. But there isn't any need for the fans to do it as I think AC has already made a basic one to pitch to whom ever he is dealing with these days.

Plus there was 5 tex games. I'm guessing you mean the FMV trilogy as prior they had just used sprites and 2D worlds.
I'm talking about Chance, Polarity, and Trance and it would be pitched to the general public to get more interest from them so the designers will want to go forward.
Chance, Polarity,and Trance
Last I checked they are just aiming to get just Chance/Trance made. Plus the teaser idea would be a basic tech demo anyway - and tech demos are rarely distributed publicly (though they are shown to the public).

I think they could make a demo of Chance/Trance like they did with PD and UKAM.
only once the game is established though. At the moment we have no idea what is happening and AC has been a bit cryptic as to the status of development.
The Van Buren tech demo was released to the public a little while back. For those unfamiliar with Interplay and their Fallout-series, Van Buren was supposed to be Fallout 3 before they got shut down and laid off.

Bethesda now owns the rights to Fallout 3, 4 and 5 afaik, and the fanboards over there are sizzling with activity. Mostly people browbeating Bethesda for their failed RPG, 'Oblivion', not wanting the new Fallout 3 to be 'Oblivion with guns'.

Basically those boards are the polar opposite to our little community. They're loud-mouthed, angry, insensitive, childish, brash, and they need moderators watching the boards 24-7.

In any case, if nothing else, it proves that just because a game series was discontinued in 1997 :P there IS hope for revival. Nothing is impossible, so, I guess we just keep on keeping the faith.

what about since 1989? is there still hope there too.. (on a totally unrelated topic) :D

The game I'm referring to was made by Interplay and they'd sell it cheap just like they did with Fallout3.. its an Interplay sale! ALL IP must go!
Hm... Wasteland?

Neuromancer actually (released at the same time and based on William Gibson's novel) :D I'm working on a remake/revision among all the other restoration stuff I am (Deus Ex) doing and juggling a life at the same time.

My website is http://www.Neuromancer.moddb.com and it is an RPG adventure with adventure game elements like Monkey Island.
Hold on ... failed RPG?!

Neither sales wise, nor review wise, (this game was the top rated game for the xbox 360, nothing else comes close) did this game fail. The only place it might have come close to failing is because it didn't live up to the standards of small portion of the world who didn't see the brilliance in that game. I've owned that game a long time, and I still go back to it from time to time.

Didn't say it was a failure as a game or a product. I said it failed as an RPG. It's not a role-playing game, it's a first-person view adventure game.

Roleplaying implies character creation, and reliance upon character skill instead of player skills. Both of which Bethesda severly botched.

Oooh, I'd have to agree to disagree on that one.

If the game was based on player skill, then you would be able to take down the strongest enemies in the game from the moment you exited the sewer, and that's just not possible.

It was a "like every other rpg" system, no. It did something different, and yeah, it threw off the purists. But you can't call it a failed roleplaying game, simply because it doesn't do everything like other RPGs.

It had a massive character creation system, and although there was player skill involved, the skill of the player depended on the usage of the skill in the game. This system was VERY deep.

I spent the majority of my time with this game leveling up my character, and working on his attributes, and if that isn't true RPGing, I don't know what is. The higher your strength the more damage you do. The higher your intelligence, the more mana.

As with each skill, the higher it is, the easier it is to use. You might be able to cast that fireball spell everytime without fail, but you're not going to be able to use the "Super Death Flame" ball till your destruction level goes up.

I dunno. It's just every facet of what an RPG is to me, was included in this game. And I'm still having a ball with it. If Fallout was like Oblivion, everyone of those fanboys you mentioned would cry their eyes out. But they'd buy it.

its not that the game was bad.. it was that Todd Howard was a dickhead and lied to the community about features that got left out of the end product. Oblivion sucked compared to its Beta versions that actually had proper radiant AI.
Elements I can refer to fast are the minigames. Why have minigames that would let you bypass your character's skill-lever with the player's skill at minigames? I give you the lockpick system and npc-convincing minigames. Pointless in an RPG game.

Also your character is very generic and can learn absolutely everything with training. In a real RPG there would be limitations so if say, you wanted to be a diplomatic wellspoken doctor, you couldn't brandish the biggest weapons as if you'd done it all your life and slay entire armies.

The character creation system in Oblivion is practically non-existant. You increase a few stats and that's it. Even if your intelligence is at an all-time low you can still walk into a shop and have a conversation like you were Sherlock Holmes.

My point is, Oblivion is - as an RPG - extremely shallow and does not deliver the goods.

However, as an action-adventure fantasy FPS, it can be loads of fun, yes.

But then, I'm one of the original Fallout-fanboys ;) I am biased, because I've played a game that actually simulates the pencil and paper-experience. And does it well.

So I take it you don't like Shadowrun (FPS - 2007) either.. That must make two of us ;)

Fallout 3 will be over hyped.. expect this because Todd Howard always over hypes at E3 (he did with Morrowind and Oblivion the past few years) So yeah I'm guessing that it'll be "THIS DOES NOT MATCH THE FINAL PRODUCT" policy again.. Bastards!.. So be warned.
I will however say I'm glad that it's Bethesda that's making it. At least it will be worth waiting for to see how it turns out. Which is more than I can say for companies like, oh, I dunno... Obsidian?

Or whoever made Knights of The Old Republic II. Way to drop the ball...

Shame about Van Buren though.
