I heard a Fallout 3 trailer (teaser) is being released today.
Man......

I was just about to enter PCgame-rehab after spending nearly every second of my life glued to Navyfield. Now this version of crack is set to come out.....

I wonder if my wife still knows my name???

:-)
That's just concept art by the way.

The teaser to the game was released today, and it included the theme song originally meant for Fallout 1 and Ron Perlman's voice as the iconic narrator of the series, which was as it should be.

Also, the FO3 forum's bust :D

I was there almost 2 days before the counter hit 01 (or 00 for me.. bastards!)
on the forums. Things were pretty bad then, people were complaining that the counter wasn't a good reliable source of information, actually it turned out that the counter was programmed to read your computers clock and not a PHP/SQL server clock. Hence most people got pissed off because no one could tell when the trailer was coming out. Rest assured it was 1 day late for EVERYONE!.

The Moderators on the Fallout forums are probably the worst bunch of people I have ever seen. Not only do they lock every post, accuse everyone of spamming, do mass banning and limit the threads to 11 pages but they also bring a lot of the problems that the Fallout community has been having. Lets just say it looks like the Beth Devs guys just got a bunch of fan boys to monitor the forums. Well anyway I got flamed by a few of them while I was on there. And this was even before the Anarchy started.

The last day happened. The site was changed to a really stupid picture:

Image

We waited all that time for a stupid Stand By screen that didn't go away for almost 12 hours. This pissed a lot of people off. By then the forums had hit about 2,000 users online at the same time. Flame wars had started because of certain ideologies saying what "the teaser will look like.. and that Teaser doesn't mean trailer" Moderators kept locking threads (at one point we had over 10 threads of the same crap! over and over)

Most of them asking "Just put the forking thing up already!" they eventually got soo pissed off they started attacking the devs. (the devs had actually been watching the forums at the time.. saying "Peter deserves a RAISE!" and of course the fanboy chant "this isn't Anarchy! this is Fallout!" kept coming up.)

At this point the server/forum hit 3,500 users. Word was getting out and the NMA guys were pretty pissed off because they had been waiting a very long time for this and still nothing. By this time the forums were filled with Red locks. The moderators couldn't keep up, some of the threads got through and the server was already starting to lag.

By this point it had hit 4,600 users and now it was anarchy. Still no teaser. So we all started yelling (and I did participate in this) "CRASH THE SERVER!"

By this time the locks were getting more and more, the moderators started Official posts where you were allowed to post and locked threads/banned anyone that started a new thread.

By this point we had hit 5,000 users. Then BANG! Server died. We had officially crashed Bethesda Soft right off the internet. ... It did not come back for 2 hours. :D

2 hours later.. still nothing. Moderators got really pissed off and threatened Mass bannings. The crash no doubt caused a delay.

2 hours after this.. We are now at about 11:56AM EST. The trailer came online - the downloads were direct link only.. but then QUICKLY shut down because Bethesda had realized that we would quite easily crash their system. Instead they opted for the Games network mirrors (such as fileshack and Fileplanet) to host the trailer. (Btw if you had been on Internode Games Network, we actually got the trailer first :D thanks to Myself and two of the admins)

After watching the trailer I realized that I was right. Bethesda has the best Art Department in the industry.. Unfortunately they have the worst Management and PR guys in the industry too.

This "Teaser" method has been officially condemned by a few game communities. It only manage to piss most of us off, except for the fanboys that couldn't see through all the hype. The teaser wasn't worth it, it didn't give enough information and proves NOTHING about Behtesda's abilities as a developer nor about the Final product (because Bethesda have always been known for lying through their teeth and exaggerating things)

My advice is be VERY skeptic about the following developments to come because after what happened with Oblivion I can only expect the same to happen. (its the same tactics they used)

Rest assured I think the graphics looked very good only because as I said Bethesda have the best Art guys in the biz. The gameplay will make or break this game.

A word of caution: Discussing Fallout with Fallout-fans is done so only at risk to your health and your surroundings. Things have a tendency of getting extremely rabid and foaming of the mouth has been known to occur.

Therefore I will not discuss my feelings about it beyond three points.

One: The 'Please Stand By'-poster with the indian on it is a reference to previous Fallout-games. For me, it was a bit of nostalgia while waiting (patiently) for the teaser.

Two: It was a teaser, not a trailer. Apparently there's a difference. To me, it showed me several things, among which, chiefly were that Bethesda will capture the feel and ambiance of the previous games. They'll get to show off gameplay later. Again, on this, I am patient.

Three: Last but not least - I refuse to get sucked in by the Bethesda Hype-machine. They deliberately did everything that irritated and upset everyone because they knew some people will invariably foam at the mouth and spamclick their refresh-buttons in the hope it helps. Meanwhile, later, Bethesda can claim as a fact that "On the eve we released the teaser for this game, the stalwart fans of Fallout crashed our servers! It took us two hours to get it back up, and when the teaser finally hit, my word, they were *ecstatic*!" and so on and so forth.

I prefer being patient, they will make the game and it will appear in due course of time for me to inspect and scrutinize. I just refuse to follow them on their forums to try and dog every movement. That leads to Hype. Hype leads to Anger! Anger leads to Fear! Fear... leads to suff-e-ring!

So in all friendliness I'll end this post here.

Because God forbid the Fallout fanbase start discussing things on the Tex Murphy forums. That'd be like a bomb dropped on Beaver Cleaverville.

I'd just like to add that we Crashed the server in Spite of what Beth was doing. People were pissed off that they delayed the teaser almost 24 hours after they had promised (the teaser was meant to be out on the 5th and came out on the 6th instead which was pretty crap)

Unfortunately the majority bought into it and I think they are all a bunch of idiots. Bethesda haven't given us enough information, once I see for myself the game working with full gameplay then I will be slightly less skeptic.. Once I actually play the game then I can pass judgment. (remember that Bethesda lies all the time when they to the real-time demos at E3 so be ULTRA skeptic when Todd Howard begins talking because he is a lying SOB. Need I bring up Radiant AI again!)

I just want to say that don't get excited about the game, thats probably the best thing you can do for yourself. I'll be waiting for the reviews to come in once the game is out. I'm still not sure if I will buy it, I'm guessing probably not given I've paid Bethesda enough money and that they OWE ME ONE! (I mean if they can pay over $1mill for Fallout's IP they must be making too much money)

Here is hoping that they actually provide PATCHING this time :D
Heh heh heh. Now *that* is funny.

Me? I seen the teaser much later, and went out and had a life in the meantime. (By life, I mean seen what was on T.V. ... Heh. )

Forum trolling to me is a bunch of ... how do you say it? Uber, leeting ... umm ... something or another.

*shrugs* From the everyday guy point of view, who never even read what they're promising on this and that ... it looked pretty cool. As you said, the gameplay will make or break it. As much as I absolutely love Oblivion, this game would suffer by having the same gameplay.

Without sounding like a *gasp* .... fanboy ... I have to say I'm excited about this, and I hope they make it worth sixty bucks.

For Bethesda to be the group of evildoers that they are, with Darth Vader as their leader (who is a heartless lying cheating thief of a liar, with big stinky doo doo drawers), they're sure drawing the people to their *lies* all over again. Some may call them asses. Some may think it not fair, or otherwise. I find it funny that it's probably the same people showing back up talking about "This time please don't place that rubber schlong in my rear ... please." ... You know, just with a lot less begging :-) Why do I find it funny? Because if you didn't like what they put out before. If they lied to you, and made you cry, then that should be it. When Fable turned out to be a linear RPG, and not at all what was promised ... you don't see me at the door, lining up for their next project. Even if it was an adaptation of my favorite hobby, with my favorite actor doing voice overs, and free tickets to an amusement park. I'm done with Lionhead Studios. Period. Only if I accidentally rent a game that I had no idea they made, will that company ever draw any of my attention again.

All the while, Bethesda ... they roll around in their money, certain people fold their arms and say "hmph" ... and they do what they want anyway. So seriously, what is the point of everybody coming together and crying about it? Wouldn't it be more productive if everybody completely ignored them? If they're liars, dead set in their ways, and evil, wouldn't you all just boycott the site, give them nothing at all until something changed?

I mean otherwise you're just perpetuating the system they use to generate hype to begin with.

Oh hell nevermind. I'm starting to confuse myself.

All I know is this. For a company that makes a *ton* of money, has the top reviewed game on the Xbox 360 ... boy they sure do have alot of people that would like to burn them at the stake. So they're liars. But they're rich liars. Rich and very talented liars. So they get away with it, right or wrong. Kinda sounds like Microsoft actually.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
Just a heads up. There are screenshots on No Mutants Allowed.

The game is Oblivion with Gunz just as everyone predicted. The game uses what is called V.A.T.S which is piss weak excuse for not making the game Real-time or Turn-based.

They've included SuperMutants (which means DeathClaws are in from the looks of things) they have also introduced the need to "drink for toilets", nuclear exploding cars and a tactical nuclear grenade launcher that kills everything in sight except the player.. (which is stupid)

What on earth have they done to this game. :(
They copulated with it's colon.

Which is my way of saying something that the new-found forum censor thingies won't allow me to say. But it's the only words that would've done Bethesdas actions justice.

I got a warning for posting a link to the underdogs.. Bastard Moderator Nazis.

Anyway this game would be quite excelent if Todd Howard and Peter.. whats his name.. Weren't working on it. They ruin games end of story.

Which is what gets me excited about the game. :D

I tried both Fallouts, liked the settings and really wanted to play them through but never could stand the fighting.

But what if they did something like what Bioware is doing with Mass Effect? I'm super excited about that game.
Oblivion was a failed RPG mate. Fallout has never been nothing but.

Oh, and his name is Peter Hines. And yes, Todd Howard must for this insult :P Heheh

Todd Howard is a retarded Albino. :D (and a stupid Liar!)

And yes Peter Hines is a stupid Hype Machine that won't shut up and SIT THE fork DOWN AND DO SOME ACTUALLY WORK FOR A CHANGE INSTEAD OF PR CRAP AND MARKETING! (and being a stupid Liar!)
Which is what gets me excited about the game. Very Happy
Go play Daggerfall and tell my Oblivion was better :P No chance in hell. Daggerfall is the GOD of all TES games and after Todd Howard joined the TES series began to suck. I dislike that Bethesda has gone down the Console path, so now we're getting lame ports for Xbox games instead of the other way around. That sucks!
Noticed a Tex reference (well, sorta) in a new Fallout 3 screenshot. :D

Been a character named 'Overseer' in every Fallout-game ;)

Oh, and this is not really a 'Fallout'-game. It's just an imitation, not the real deal. T'is Oblivion-With-Guns, meaning an action-adventure game set in Fallout's atmosphere and setting. And I so badly wanted a real cRPG.

*Sigh*
