Cabin CD puzzle

Hi... I posted this on another forum, but I thought this would be an even better place.
I resorted to using the cheat code from the hint system to have the cabin CD puzzle solved for me. It's the one where you need to put different colours in a four-by-four grid, without having more than one of the same colour in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line. This just didn't sit right with me, but I'm very sure that I solved the puzzle correctly and nothing happened. In fact, I looked the solution up after I solved it myself and nothing happened. Only using the cheat code revealed anything.
I tried it with an older save game and it worked just fine. Maybe it's got something to do with shuffling the squares around over each other, or something. Maybe it would've worked if I had moved them all off the puzzle and started from scratch. That doesn't remove the fact that I had all squares in the correct position and the game didn't detect it.
So is this a bug, or did I miss something?
P.S. I just watched The Maltese Falcon with Humphrey Bogart (1941).
