Cabin CD puzzle

Hi... I posted this on another forum, but I thought this would be an even better place. :)

I resorted to using the cheat code from the hint system to have the cabin CD puzzle solved for me. It's the one where you need to put different colours in a four-by-four grid, without having more than one of the same colour in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line. This just didn't sit right with me, but I'm very sure that I solved the puzzle correctly and nothing happened. In fact, I looked the solution up after I solved it myself and nothing happened. Only using the cheat code revealed anything.

I tried it with an older save game and it worked just fine. Maybe it's got something to do with shuffling the squares around over each other, or something. Maybe it would've worked if I had moved them all off the puzzle and started from scratch. That doesn't remove the fact that I had all squares in the correct position and the game didn't detect it.

So is this a bug, or did I miss something?

P.S. I just watched The Maltese Falcon with Humphrey Bogart (1941). :D

Never had a problem with that one.

And neither have some people who claim they've finished the game multiple times. But I can't believe it's a mistake on my part! I won't, because I had the puzzle finished! Doesn't matter now, because I used the cheat code, anyway. I also abused the alien autopsy video thing to crank up my score a bit.

If I remember correctly, that's the pattern you use in the cabin to get into the locked room upstairs in the cabin. That is, when you solve the cd puzzle in Tex's office, nothing happens. But now you have the code to unlock the door in the cabin!

Of course I could be wrong. My memory is failing, being GTNQSOG.

If you finish the puzzle on Tex's computer, something happens and you get to see a pattern of orange squares, which is the combination to the door upstairs in the cabin. You also get to read something about the Mayan, I believe. So something happens alright, but it didn't for me. :P Well, not until I tried the same with that older save game.

I believe that I have had that same problem one time a few 5-10 years ago ... somewhere in that time frame. I remember doing the puzzle on the computer and nothing happened, so I removed all of the squares off the grid and tried it again and it worked ... granted I could have bypassed it all together since the code to the cabin is forever burned into my mind.
This reminds me of that ripped up note you had to assemble in UKM you find in the countess mansion. No matter how many times I pieced that one together it never worked ... If I recall correctly we got a new keyboard the next day because someone pressed a little too hard on it with a closed fist.
