Christmas wishes?

With the joyful season approaching, have we all made some wishes or requests for those special gifts? My gift (well, not really a gift since i'm paying for it, but still a treat) is that i'll finally be getting my 42 inch 1080i/p television. I've also got quite a list brewing for boxing day shopping.

I haven't gotten what I originally wished for yet, so I'm trying again this year.
Peace on earth, goodwill towards men. (And women.)

I wanted money towards a tv I was planning on buying, but the financial waters have changed and that's become a bit of impossibility. By next year I'll get what I want. Oh well...

If you want a happy holiday season then I suggest you have a SAFE season using good judgement, especially when it comes to alcohol consumption. Using a designated driver could save your live.
As a side note, a newer translation of the Bible more accurately translates the famous words: "Peace on earth, good will towards men" this way: "And on earth, peace towards men of good will." FYI.

And what if you don't work at Goodwill?

Seriously? That went from being good to everyone, to only good to people who have good will. And you'd think that god would want to impose good will on all of his subjects. I dunno, if that's seriously the new translation ... I believe the influence of George with a capital G has struck again. This is the beginning of the end!
Either that or I look into things way too much.
Or Jim was just kidding, and that was a joke.
Or I'm just plain dumb.
I'm going with the last one.

If the bible says that only men of good will can have peace, then I say screw the bible.
Peace and good will to all. Every last one.
Not one human being excluded.
I still don't get what I want for christmas though.

If everyone didn't have peace, then not everyone would have peace. And then we'd be back where we are now. Hence my wish.
I get sentimental every christmas. Ask me again in April, I'll tell you I want a giant thermonuclear device to exterminate people I do not like.

As Tex would say: "Sheesh!" I didn't mean to open a can or worms; I just thought it would be interesting to supply a different version of an old saying. (TOG goes to kitchen, removes a dull butter knife, and tries to slash his wrists. Anybody have any good will to spare?)

Takes the butter knife and puts it down.
You've got goodwill from me, Jim.
"Visualize whirled peas."
That, and a new Tex project.

Good will...
Quality I admire. Still, knowing this board's past fondness for 'serious threads', I would have thought its members would have gone to great lengths to keep them to a minimum - particularly at this time of year when people are hyperemotional. Any mention of religion, politics, or jokes that ride close to the wind and it all kicks off - like some kind of feeding frenzy.
The handling of this thread is reaching new heights of futility...

I'll pretend I understood that, and then imagine it said something profound.
Good point, Fred! Merry Christmas!
