A foolish dream

I know it sounds redundant and stupid, but everyone has a dream I guess. Everyone has said at one time or another "If I win the lottery, I'm going to..." But the fact of the matter is, with that amount of money, what all would you really do with it? For me, after I take care of all the bills I need to, and make sure my family is taken care for the next 10 years at least, there really isn't anything else I would need all that money for. Aside from the fact that my dream job is to own and operate my own arcade, my big dream is to see the Tex Murphy saga come to an end. And I figure, "if i win the lottery, i'm going to" donate 2 million dollars to Aaron Conners and Chris Jones so that they may finally complete the series the way they want to. Money is money...yeah, we all need it in some form. But things that truly bring us happiness are what are important in life. Would we all suddenly die if for some reason this series was never completed? No. That's a crazy notion. But, we can all agree that there are things in this life that bring us happiness and put a smile on our faces. This series for me is a ton of great memories..hanging out with my friend and just laughing my butt off. I'd like to make some more memories.

All criticism is welcome for my foolish dream, but if there's a dream you'd like to share, I'd love to hear about it.

Well I think we'd all invest what we could. We had a euromillions lottery here which on friday the tax free jackpot was $190 million. If I'd won I'd probably have given more (who would need that much??). As it is, we can donate to UTM's paypal for now.

As it was on friday, 15 people won in 6 countries, and none of them were me.

There's always next week....

That's the way I kind look at the Powerball. Always next week. Occasionally when I think about it at the convenient store, I will drop a dollar on the quick pick, you never know when you will get lucky.

...my dream job is to own and operate my own arcade...
What kind of arcade did you have in mind? I had an arcade once. Probably not the kind you're thinking of because it was before video games.

Back in the 70's I had a pinball arcade on 8 Mile Road in Detroit. And you're right. It is a dream business. Very easy to set up and easy to run. I used to brag that all I had to do for a living was take my money to the bank. Once-a-week: open the machines, take the money.

The reason I had to close is a little weird. It turns out that, on 8 Mile, there were quite a few adult book stores, flesh shops and that sort of thing. My pinball parlor was right between two adult book and video stores.

One summer, the neighborhood decided to march up and down 8 Mile to protest all the sex shops. My place was wholesome enough. No adult content whatsoever. Just games. But after the city changed the zoning laws along that stretch of 8 Mile, my shop got thrown out with all the adult shops.

While I was in the process of looking for a new location, I sort of got a potato processing company dropped in my lap and so I spent several years in the potato business. But that's another story.
Your dream is proper and we wish you well.

Lottery - I would definitely donate at least $20 mill to the guys for a new game.

On the other hand, 85% of all big lottery winners file bankruptcy in 5 years.

There is nothing wrong with dreaming...

If I came into a hefty sum of cash, I would probably do the following:

Help pay off anything holding me or my family back (mortgages, etc.) so that we can all be worry free.
Donate some money to the Access boys to help them make their dreams come true.
And the rest I would probably put towards starting my own film production company and would make a few of the films I've been wanting to make for years.

DrPaul: That's a crazy story about your pinball arcade. I love pinball! My arcade would definitely have a rather large room for just pinball because I think it's kind of underrated as far as gaming these days. (Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End pinball is fantastic) I'm very ambitious as far as the arcade I would love to own and operate. I would like a very eclectic mix of vintage machines and newer models. I would also like to set up rooms with monitors and have a classic NES room, a sega genesis room, SNES room, PS2 room..and so on and so on. It would be a mecca for gaming. A place for people who love games and the fun of gaming to come and just escape from the troubles of everyday life and just totally get lost in a video game in a fun environment. But it doesn't stop there...I would want to hold gaming tournaments every month...last man standing...have a huge screen in the middle of the business with a big stage for the contestants to stand tall and proud in the arena while envious gamers stand along side the pit and admire the skill at which these gaming warriors do battle for the coveted top honor of that months Supreme Gaming Champion. And at the end of the year, I would bring back all the past months winners for a huge gaming bonanza, where the final two champions will do battle in the spin-off challenge: One contestant will spin a wheel to determine which system will be used (arcade, pc, sega, PS2, XBox), then, the other contestant will spin another wheel, determining which game they will do battle on. All for a grand prize fit for a king....Free plays on every maching for one year, and 60% of the total entry fees collected to enter the tournament. Another foolish dream....

Cubase: That is an excellent dream...a long time ago, my cousin and I were really heavy into writing and one sorta cool idea we had was to take existing video games, and create screenplays for them. I started on Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side...but lost sight of it after my cousin got really heavy into drugs...I haven't written anything of value in years...perhaps one day I will get motivated. Maybe I could post something on here and you guys could tell me what you think...

OldGuyJim: Another cause I would donate money to would be to Cancer research. I lost my father 3 years ago to lung cancer and also 4 other family members as well. A very ugly disease that needs to be stopped. A very worthy foundation to donate to.

Doc, I would read a story about your life. That's some kind of interesting.

I've got a few stories to tell. Wish I could write.

Adminsreaction: If you build it, they will come.
Lost my father in 1978 to lung cancer as well. Very debillitating disease. In fact, I currently support cancer research for that very reason.
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
It's one of those things, where, if you don't have it affect you personally, you don't give it much thought...but once it's hit you, your family and your friends, you start to open your eyes to this devastating disease and how it needs to be stopped before more good people are taken before their time.
