A Few Old Things...

I just read that they were suppose to make a Movie based on Pandora Directive... What ever happen with that, does anyone know??? I searched but couldn't find anything but the one old page that I found... A Black Sun Rising I believe it was going to be called...

There use to be a Petition to bring Tex back... I found it on another website, but when I signed it and tried to submit it, it told me the page I was looking for wasn't there... So what happen to the Petition, does anyone know???

And I have another question... If Fan Base was at an all time low as Aaron as suggested in a Letter he submitted on another Homepage that I looked at, why are there SOOO MANY Sites dedicated to Tex Murphy and the comeback of the adventures??? A Lot of websites for something that is so Unpopular...

Check the "last updated" dates on those Tex Murphy web rings. It's been awhile. Several of those sites were made by past and current members of this board.

Black Sun Ascending never got off the ground sadly. Other projects that were cancelled midspan were The Black Pearl, based on the graphic novel, and a game for Speilberg's movie AI. The industry is brutal. Full Throttle 2, the LucasArt's version of the Sam and Max sequel, etc.

I believe the petition was from the older version of the UTM board. When James moved from ezboard to the current software, it was left behind. Besides, if I remember correctly, the petition was during the "Microsoft owned the rights to Tex" era.

I don't think Tex is a lost cause by any stretch of the imagination, it's got great cross-genre appeal and retro gaming is still extremely hot. But to convince the folks with the purse strings.....a hugely different story.
Yeah the Petition said something about Microsoft in it... So who does own the rights at this point??? Maybe it's time to start a New Petition...

Either way, sites aren't free, you still have to pay for the Domain Name, so someone is still paying for those sites to stay up... Except for the couple that were Geocities sites...

I've said on many occasions that the games should be reformatted for modern OSs... See what kind of profit comes in from it and take those profits and put them into a fund for a New Tex Adventure... Maybe the copyright owners could offer a deal with something like that, for every 2 dollars in the profit fund they give a dollar or something like that...

As for Black Sun Rising I remember reading something about Luke Skywalker in there... lol I know his name is Mark Hamill... He's never done much except for Star Wars, sometimes you have to say Luke Skywalker in order for some people to realize who you are talking about...
I know him by Christopher Blair as well, Wing Commander kicked ass...

It's been 10 years, hope isn't as bright in everyone anymore... Granted mine has actually gotten brighter since I learned that I could play these games again with this Dosbox... Which it's been less than a month for that... But still a Decade is really stretching a comeback at this point...

Online Petitions are pointless, its been proven all to many times.

Web domains are actually really cheap. If you can afford DSL, you can definitely afford your own web page to go with it. Enough space to send a billion copies of UAKM to a billion people.

Its just a matter of having the income to back it up - else you rely on painted on PayPal links that don't do anything :D I had a friend that did that, he only got 20 cents.

Jen is right, the industry is a brutal bitch. Indie developers tend to be the only ones these days that can get $#it done - and they rarely ever make the news. (unless you are Introversion :D I love them so much!)

Aaron has been rather cryptic as to who owns the rights now. Chris was planning to lease the IP from Microsoft for a fee. I don't know what happened.
As communities such as this, we could giving out a mailing address and create a type of chain letter, but one that is only for this type of purpose... We send the ever growing list around and around, not only signing it ourselves, but friends or family members as well... As it works down the address line we end up with quite a large Petition with actual signatures, not just typed ones on some website...

I'd be willing to be on the mailing list... We set it up through the message board, whoever starts it posts a thread saying they are ready to mail it to the next person... The first person to post gets it sent to them, then they come back when they are done and ready to send it and posts, the first person to post........you get the idea...

It would take a little planning, but I think it could work...

Or you could put all that effort into developing an ACTUAL prototype. Take it from an Ex-Graphics Design student and Marketing Graduate, Visual persuasion works better than words ever will. If you can show them it working, they will go for it.
I use to be in the Tech field, before they started punching computers off the assembly lines... But I ain't no where near a Graphics Designer... I'll stick with the Petition and fully back you designers... :D
Sorry I've lost a lot of my creativity over the years when I fell out of the loop of Technology...

I would guess that T-TWO still owns the rights to Tex Murphy... There is little information to be found on the closing of Indie Built...

Take-Two Closes Indie Built Development Studio

Take-Two Closes Indie Built Development Studio Take-Two has confirmed that, as of Friday, the company has closed down its Salt Lake City-based development studio Indie Built (Amped 3), with the loss of an unspecified number of jobs.

Take-Two acquired the Salt Lake City, Utah-based development studio from Microsoft in December 2004, in a move to focus on next-generation development. The company was originally founded as Access Software back in 1982, and was particularly known for its work on the Links golf game series, before the company moved on to early CD-ROM titles such as Under A Killing Moon. The company was acquired by Microsoft in 1999, before being passed on to Take-Two.

Jim Ankner, Director of Corporate Communications at Take-Two, assured Gamasutra that the company was doing what it could to take care of those affected by the closure, stating: "Employees are being offered packages including continuation of salary and benefits, as well as other opportunities within Take-Two as appropriate."

Indie Built had shipped over 37 titles on 7 different platforms. Its most recent output, in "focusing on sports titles for the next generation of gaming consoles and the PC platform", included Links 2004 for the Xbox, as well as Xbox 360 releases Amped 3 and Top Spin 2, the former of which debuted to apparently lackluster sales, despite intriguing open-level gameplay and unconventional interface choices, and is one of the first Xbox 360 titles to receive price cuts.

That's about as deep of a report as I can find... The only other thing to do is try contacting someone at T-TWO and ask about the Tex Rights as well as the dismantling of Indie Built and see what kind of answers you can get out of them...

I guess this is the website we need to bombard to try and resurrect Tex Murphy... If they indeed still hold the rights... They may have sold them off to another company or been part of a deal with a sister or parent company...
Like I said, they would need to be contacted to get finer details...
