Fifteen tons

Whew! My arms are about ready to fall off.
I just finished shoveling a little over fifteen tons of snow, by hand. I've been shoveling continuously for about six hours and cleared an area of 6,875 sq ft.
The snow wasn't particularly deep. Only about six inches. But it was wet and heavy and pretty high density. (I measured it.)
I've actually done this at least a dozen times already this winter, however, I was particularly tired after this one today. Not bad for a 56 year old guy. But I sure wish Spring would get here soon.

That's why I bought a Snow Blower... Not that I've needed it much since I bought it... Haven't gotten a decent snow around here in a couple years...
I like snow and want some soon... Probably won't get any this year though... Screw It, I'm just gonna go back to Montana for a few days and do some Snowmobiling...

That's why I bought a Snow Blower...
I used to have a snow blower. My parents bought me one for Christmas back in '92. Armed with a nice new snowblower, I started doing the sidewalks for the whole block, plus the walks up to the front porches and a few driveways. Most of my neighbors are in their 70's and 80's and it's too hard for them. So it's something I could do to help them.
But a few years ago, my snow blower just couldn't cut it anymore, so I had to resort to using a hand shovel and that's what I've been using the last few years. One of these days, I'm not gonna be able to cut it anymore either, and I'l probably have to get another machine.

I feel your pain Doc, I'm Canadian and if it's one thing we're known for it's winter. I recently went back home and I was surprised to see the amount of snow that was there. It wasn't an abnormal amount but I had just forgotten just how much we got there.
I have an unrelated pic of my buddy getting pulled out of a snow bank but to give you an idea of what it's like here. It's not the best example of the amount of snow, just keep in mind imediately behind that bank is a hill/cliff for the rest of the snow to fall down. Check it out:

I know at my parent's place they can't shovel the snow anymore because there is nowhere to throw it so they have to have it plowed. My dad is the same age as you so I know exactly what it's like because he calls me all the time to REMIND me of what it's like . . . daily . . . sigh.

Ha, I am a redhead so I'll pass on the sunlight. Something about that giant ball of fire in the sky that reacts with my vampiric flesh that makes me wanna shy away from that. However . . . you do have beaches and bikini girls . . . I retract my statement. I'll be the guy in a long sleeve shirt and a hat in the sweltering heat wandering the beach trying to look "cool". Keep an eye out for me.

I think Dr. Paul will now have to be referred to as Mr. Plow!

I'm with you, Doc! I'm sick and tired of shoveling snow this year. Since we live close to each other I can sympathize with you. The snow was wet and heavy, although I didn't hace to shovel as much. My drive is 80 feet and my front sidewalk is about 100 feet. What really was maddening is this: I finally finish shovelling, go out and take care of business, come back 4 hours later and the City Plow came by and filled the ramp to my drive? About 2 and 1/2 feet thick! Man was I P.O.! Had to shovel that stuff too.

"Call me Dr. Plow, they call me Dr. Plow..." You wanted the shovel and you got the shovel....I wouldn't want a sunny warm christmas....I've lived here in the Ohio valley for my whole life, and christmas is all about cold, snowy weather and being bundled up...I can remember one year it didn't snow once all the way up to christmas night...and overnight he snowed almost 2 feet of snow...it made for a perfect "white christmas"...
