Favorite moments in Unofficial Tex Murphy History.

I thought I'd wax rhapsodic about the board. I realized that under the influence, hehehe Cubbie, we've discussed how happy we are to have this haven, and we list a bunch of the irregulars, share a hug, and maybe a tear, but I want to reflect on a couple special moments. And no, I'm not under said influences.

I guess I realized what a special thing we had here was when I lent out the UAKM novels for folks to read before a couple of fantastic people made a PDF of it. I was so nervous that I would never see them again, but each person that read them enclosed a little note before mailing it out to the next person. And the copies came back in immaculate condition, just as they were sent. Not a broken spine or anything. :D

That was a happy moment, knowing that a few more folks got the chance to read how awesome the book was.

Another neat one was when I went to Hawaii, and STILL had to check up on the board, and everyone wished me well and Mai Tai's galore.

So, anyone else have a story they like to share?

Bad memory? Old Mikey. Or is young Mikey a better turn of phrase? He was a menace.
Hugs!!!
Jen
Ahh Jen what a great idea!

Of course my favourite memories span from quite a while ago... when Matt Buckstein told us all he was leaving the community for good, but it tuend out to be an April Fools joke.

...but then I guess we hardly see him around wanyway, so maybe it did come true in time.

Also, the time when Jim and I were nearing 1,000 posts and both opted to reach that milestone together. That was really awesome.

I enjoyed Alex Bark's frequent use of Russian humour (even though I must admit I never really quite got it)... "Nobody fools Russian guy, not even super hot woman, becuase we very strong!"

I loved the pop-ins from AC, and that chat with him that was organised a while ago (we must do it again soon). And also, having Matt Heider as a member.

The responses I got when pulling a Cub.

And last but not least, the welcome I got 11 years ago, the first person who greeted me in this forum all that time ago was JimTOG!

Lets keep the ball rolling folks!

OK...one more. A quickie.
When we were in the chat and Doug Vandergrift was talking about t*ts, and someone mentioned that they had small hairy t*ts. Then AC said that Doug wanted his email address.
Then I think it went to Tots from Sonic.

Taken out of context, it makes little sense, but while it was happening, oh my God, I was dying!!!!

eom

:P
I did love the live chats we organised. I still had everyone's icq addresses until about three days ago - no one has logged into ICQ in years!

I loved receiving one of Jen's books and getting it typed up. I remember how well packed it was and how cool it was to have someone I've never met actually post the book from another country. It was such a cool moment opening the box.

And I love that this board still carries on - even when there's no news of Tex I still try and log in most days just to see who's said what recently. Some people come up with great threads, like the one about who kills the most threads - that was a real eye opener. I thought it was me all the time but it turned out were all about equal. (Please someone else post something now!!)

Just for your Demon... lol

I haven't been here as long as most, or I should probably say, all the regulars... I've seen a few new people pop up, but they've barely posted and seem to dwindle out rather quickly...
I'd like to take this time and this space to Apologize to any members that I may have offended at an earlier time...

As said, I haven't been here long, so the only Favorite moment I can come up with is how Patient and helpful Nilo was in getting me up and running with the Tex Games... He was really something else, email after email he didn't waver at all... Very courteous, explained everything throughly, sometimes 3 times because I didn't quite understand... Nilo is something special when it comes to this community, and I'm quite sure he's a helluva guy in real life as well...

If the people in the community had a bit more money to travel with, I would suggest a get together or something, maybe in San Fran. {Near Chandler Ave. Perhaps} some time in the future, or anywhere else that would be easier for the community... Not sure who would be able to make it though, since the community isn't that big, we could end up with maybe half a dozen people there... That wouldn't be to kewl...
Just made me think of it, when I played at http://www.evernight.com a lot, they use to hold get togethers in New Orleans once a year, probably still do, but that's a community of a few thousand over there...
Though if anyone thinks it would work, feel free to take over and begin arranging... I'd do my best to attend...

Okay, now I must beg like Demon  ... Please Some One Post Something NOW!!!

I too miss Alex. His enthusiasm and irreverent nature made for some interesting posts :)

I think my favourite moment is um... i forget when, but a while back when i rediscovered this place after not posting for like a year or two, and everyone was really happy to see me back.

This truly is more than a forum, it's a community.

I hate "favorite moments" moments. They suck. These moments bring to light an aspect of life that is inescapable, an end.

I like coming to this board because it keeps 'Tex Murphy' alive. We all know the truth but we _choose_ to see things differently. Tex lives as long as we keep him alive. Heck, I cannot even remember how I found "The Unofficial Tex Murphy" board. But as long as the board is here, so am I.

My favorite moment was when I first picked up and found "Tex Murphy, Under A Killer Moon" in 1998 in Augsburg, Germany (with German subtitles no less). It cost 99 Deutsch Marks (a lot of money). I became hooked and love every minute of it.

Looking back does no one any good. I just want the be able to get my Tex games to play easily on these more modern machines in hope that my children can learn to like Tex as much as I do.

Then, I will have a _REAL_ favorite moment!

Reality is a concept whose time has not come.

Yes, I remember when Cub was just..... a....I know I'm gonna hate myself for this......cub. That was bad.

I also remeber we used to visit Matt's site on a regular basis and then, for some unknown reason, we were all here at UOTM. The reason for the switch is a mystery but the reason we are here is not. Tex is someone we can relate to, a tour-de-force in our lives and we need to focus on that from day to day.

I remember many who no longer visit the board and I can only think: "Look what they are missing!"

I daily reflect on the "coziness" of our community, impressed by the international brotherhood we possess that flies in the face of all the worthless and useless politicians and pious religious hypocrites that scream and holler for peace and then bless weapons of war to further their own selfish greed. We have succeeded where others continue to fail.

I applaud the younger generation playing adventure games when the gaming trend has transferred to shoot-em-ups that left adventure games gasping for life. And, might I add, this group of young people will carry on when the older ones go the way of the dodo.

I remember Ripley and my heart skips a beat.

I love you all and I am proud to be a part of this society.

A special thanks to James LeMosey for allowing us to come here as often as we like and post some of the craziest things I've ever seen.

Bless you all, especially "you know who."

Yes, of course. Sometimes I read over her old posts.

I quite liked the whole Dr. X/Kator era, I thought that was hillarious. For those of you who need a refresher, a user named Dr. X left a message on the forums asserting that there was a conspiracy by a covert group affiliated with Microsoft who were trying to prevent a Tex game from ever happening.

Not long after, a user named Kator claimed to be an alien who was allegedly hired by this organisation but refused to do their dirty work as it went against his sense of morals.

It was a really nutty time. This was back in the day where you didn't even need to register to be a user here. I think I was aboout 16 when all this happened.

Dang! I remember that! I was a sophomore in high school when that guy was around here! And probably roughly the same age as you.

There are so many thing that make this place special. A kind word for all who ever u are.

There are so many peaple that make this place feel like a home away from home like Jen, Cub, JTOG, heck not forgeting AC and all the gang. Everyone who posts here does so for the love of tex games and for the friends we have found along the way.

There are so many special times chared within these bourds Good times and bad times "Taking a Cub". and we remember those who have gone before us for as long as we all stay here and remember they will never truly have gone.

But mainly this is one of the few places that has gone beyond a website and forems for the love of a game it has become a save haven for all of us and let us keep it that way.

Takes a bow and walks silently of the stage.
Live is too short to waste it make sure its with the one u love !
