Wow.....

Out of nowhere.....

Cardiac arrest... collapsed and died in the hospital.

I loved his music when I was a kid. He was an icon of the 80s.

The scandals of 90s really sucked... but he was a great talent.

He will be sorely missed.

Say what you will about what did or didn't happen in his personal life, the man was and is an undeniable music legend. He was definitely a large part of my '80's childhood, and will be greatly missed.

My thoughts exactly! His music shaped the world and my childhood. It was a time where everyone around the globe danced together as one and got to forget about the world's problems. But they never let him forget his. Rest in peace, you will be missed!

Wow, 2009 wasn't looking as bad as 2008, then all in one week: McMahon, Fawcett, and The King of Pop.

 When I heard Jackson was going to the hospital, I was sure he'd pull through.

His music, even though has an 80s sound, I think is timeless.

Its as good today as it was back then.

His music will be remembered forever...

Just like mozart and beethoven, in a few hundred years, people will still be playing him.

There aren't too many artists that have that kind of lasting power.

He's to the 80s what Elvis was to the 50s.

There's only one 80s pop icon left now... Madonna.

BTW... I was surprised when I heard about Ed McMahon too. Well, not so much surprised as I was upset. Yeah, his career degenerated into advertising diabetic supplies and Publisher's Clearing House... But I used to watch Star Search every Saturday when I was a kid.

I'm almost a 3rd of the way through my life and having all your child hood Celebrities die really begins to make you feel mortal. I was going to say old... but I am not by any means old... not yet. Next thing you know were gonna hear Sean Connery or Michael J Fox died....... Knock on wood..... Michael J. Fox dying would just be the worst....... cause he is just such a nice guy.

.... k that kind of got off topic.

Or Clint Eastwood, God and every other entity with any power to prevent it forbid!

Didn't this board use to have a real hardcore Michael Jackson fan about? Whatever happened to Porridgeprincess or whatever her nickname was?

As for Michael Jackson, his music was never my cup of tea, but even so I have to admit it was quality music. Which, from me, is the highest possible compliment to any band or artist that I'm not an avid fan of. Guy played from the heart - that's all I ask for, really.

Very true, the Man himself may have been an @sshole, but his music was indeed something special...

Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett, David Carradine and Dom Deluise... A sh;tty year to be sure in celeb death... It's not going to be a nice ride for the 2nd half of the year...

This is no doubt a major historic news event. Think along the lines of Lennon, Presley and Diana.

You don't have to be a fan of Michael Jackson to pay respect to his passing. All you need is an interest in music and some compassion for a human being. I've heard some pretty tasteless jokes around the place today and it's sad.

I must admit though, more than Michael or the industry, I grieve much more for his children and immediate family. Through all the good times and the bad times they have stuck by him. 2009 was no doubt going to be an exciting year for the Jackson family with the Farewell Shows in London this year. It's a shame none of that will be realised.

But yes, it's finally time to put all the tabloid nonsense to rest for just a moment and realise just how much of an icon Michael Jackson was (and is) to the industry. To me, this will be one of those moments in history where I remember where I was, what I was doing, who I was with and what I was wearing.

It was strange. I was at work early this morning and sitting with two other colleagues watching some television. In passing one of them mentioned that Jackson had been rushed to hospital. I brushed it off saying "oh yeah, it's Jackson, he'll be out in no time." Then literally, at that very second, a banner comes up down the bottom of the screen: "Michael Jackson is dead" followed by crossing over to see a birds eye shot of the hospital he was in. We were seeing it unfold live...at that very second.

I will NEVER forget that. Ever.

Maaan. I woke up last night to go to work, and seen this in my news file, and couldn't believe it. I know we're all mortal, but Michael seemed to be one of those immortals. Like his unique and bizarre personality kept him apart from stuff like that. In a way however, he *is* immortal. His music will always be there for us all to remember him by.

You know my mom named me after Jackson. True story ....

I have to say (with absolutely no offence at all) that it hasn't surprised me that he's died at fifty. When you take into account all of the psychological damage, addictions to alcohol and pain killers plus the recent allegation that he had taken innordinate dosages of legal performance enhancing medication, it kind of amounts to a downward spiral.

To me, Jackson hasn't looked healthy in 20 years.

Like I said though, I don't mean anything nasty in anyway, just my observations.

Jackson hasn't been healthy in 20 years... He has had that Lung Disease for at least a decade that he has battled with...
But to die of heart failure like this, when he has had no signs of heart problems, that's why they are looking into all of his prescription drugs and doctor's reports...

He inspired and affected many people around the entire world... His passing will be felt for years to come...

I was driving home from the Gym.

Billie Jean was playing on the radio... (and this was not intentionally played either)
Quite ironic actually.

After the song was done, the announcement came that he was rushed to the hospital.

I was about 15 to 20 mins away from home.

By the time I got home, he was dead.

Yea... just like Joel, it is definitely a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life.

He was a legend. I was never a massive fan, but I would loved to have been able to say I'd seen him in concert. He clearly worked hard at his music and his image and it's a massive loss to us all.

So now they are investigating the report of a doctor that gave him a injection for pain which was shortly before he had the heart attack
