Overseer DVD and Windows XP SP3?

When I first got my newest PC about 3 years ago (P4 3.2Ghz, 2G RAM, 256MGeForce 6800, 300G HD), I was able to get Overseer's DVD version to work with little difficulty by installing in 98 Compatibility mode. I know it worked because i used to drive my wife crazy re-playing the ending sequence over and over and over.
I recently watched "The Maltese Falcon" for the first time a couple weeks ago, and it made me want to break out all of my Tex Murphy games for the first time in well over a year. Gordon Fitzpatrick even mentions Sam Spade at the beginning of Pandora!
I was crushed when I fired up Overseer and it didn't work! If I tried to start at the beginning, it GPFed bringing up Tex's office, and if I started from my saved game, I was able to go get Gideon's hair and put it on the DNA scanner, but it GPFed a few seconds into the sequence where Tex tries to shut down Overlord.
The only thing I can think of in the last 3 years that would explain it is that I now have SP3 installed.
Anyone else have the same problem?
