Those aren't the Droids you're looking for
Sorry this post isn't about Star Wars but couldn't resist the joke.
I've got a question for folks out there. I'm on Verizon and am thinking about upgrading my phone from a BlackBerry Storm to either a Droid Incredible or Droid X (when it comes out on July 15th).
Was wondering if you any of you could give me some reviews of the Android OS or any other Droid phones you've used. Do you like them? Should I make the switch?

Yea, I keep hearing those rumors, and that's sort of what's kept me on the fence about getting one. Because, everyone I talk to says that the iphone is great but AT&T's service is horrible. I'd rather stay on Verizon if possible. But, if the iphone is truly the greatest device ever, then it might be worth a switch.

Well as with every gadget they've got a short life span. Something will be the "greatest thing ever" until somebody else comes out with the next "greatest thing ever".
I'm happy with Verizon myself and would rather not switch. It would have to be a truly spectacular phone that could operate my TV, shoot lasers out at my enemies, and drive my car so I could nap before I'd seriously consider switching.

As an owner of exclusively Apple desktops and an owner of an iPod Touch (like the iPhone without the phone), this Spring I became the proud owner of a first generation Motorola Droid. I am much happier with Verizon than I ever would be with AT&T (been there, done that), and I really like Google's much more open "ecosystem". The interface itself is enjoyable, and the apps, while fewer in number than the iPhone's, are for most people more than enough.
Apple's gig is to lock you in a room without windows (heh...), then dress up the scenery, feed you grapes (a good portion of which are tasty and not wax), and generally pamper you so that you never want to leave. You can't see the contents of your internal memory, expand the memory, or even change out a battery, let alone load apps that are unapproved by Apple's stringent App Store. The iPhone/iTunes ecosystem is a wonderful, beautiful thing, don't get me wrong, and many, many people are happy with the user experience. I am not; I get claustrophobic.
But as far as Android goes, while they are quite stable, Google keeps improving the OS; if all goes as planned, there will have been three major OS updates in 2010, as opposed to Apple's yearly update (none of which have been particularly dramatic, but in all fairness, the iPhone's OS just had less to improve upon). The update coming up around the end of the year is reportedly a beautifying/sprucing up of the UI, which admittedly isn't as slick or pretty as the iPhone's.
In case you're still wondering, I'm counseling you to get the Droid X. You can always cuss me out if you don't like it!

Yes I've avoided Apple because I don't like their Control-Freak nature.
My only concern with the X is that pictures of it online make it look huge. I'm debating whether the Incredible wouldn't be more practical since it's smaller.
Will have to wait till they are both in the stores so I can see them side by side and judge their heft.

I tried finding the Video Clip from Transformers where they turn the phone into a robot and then zap it, but I couldn't...

Well I just picked up my new Droid X from the Verizon store today. Wow talk about a new and shiny toy!
It runs much faster than my BlackBerry Storm. It's a little weird have to learn this new OS but so far so good. I'm liking it. It's so big but is surprisingly light in my hand.
