Unofficial Tex Murphy

I just logged into an account today where I've forgotten my password and it's asked the usual, mother's maiden name etc. but there's one question I must have set myself some time ago - it's asked:-

Who wrote the Tex Murphy novels?

It brought a smile to my face. I just can't remember whether or not I included a space in the name!

I hate that! Once in a great while I will get asked a security question I can't remember the answer to. Man! That is so frustrating!

Nooo... You, Jim!? Surely this affliction of the memory can't happen to you, can it!?

I've forgotten security questions as well. I made the mistake of choosing questions like your favorite food or movie. Those things changed over time for me, and I couldn't remember what things I used to like.

The worst time I have is with one of my accounts where the question is about my best man's name at my wedding and I never remember if it's his first name, his full name, or his nickname.

Akin to the "space or no space", when I'm asked what city I was born in, I can't remember if I put the state, as well. Just ran into that this week, actually.

I haven't told everyone yet - there's one friend who is utterly useless at turning up when we arrange to meet, so I'm not letting her find out until the day - I'm convinced she won't turn up if she knows beforehand!

As for security questions, I have been thinking its easy enough for anyone to google that answer, but it can be fun to have for the less secure things, that don't need my credit card details.

With my two word answers I can never remember whether I put capital letters for the second (and thus the first) word - that's usually my undoing.

One security question I could not remember was: What city were you married in? It's a 2 word city and no matter what variation I used it would not accept it! Man that was irritating!

When I use a name for a security question like I usually put it in backwards, a little added security for those "Google Searches"...

"Connors Aaron" would be my answer...


I rarely use names though, unless it is something outrageous like, "Who was my 6th great grandfather on my fathers side?"... The chances of someone non-personal to me knowing that is going to be rather slim...

Yeah, me too. Either my mother's maiden name or my dad's middle name which I am extremely pleased he did NOT give me that name. If he did I would've changed my name to Mich. You know, short for Michigan, like Tex is short for.....never mind.

I make up stuff. Like when they ask what was your childhood pet's name. I never had a pet growing up but always wanted one. So I use the name of the imaginary pet I would have had. That way not even my siblings can hack my account since I never told them. Haha!

Now I'm curious. Not because of the security details I might glean by knowing a potential password *snicker*

But because when people say they dodged a bullet by escaping a name... I kinda gotta need to know the name!
