I was just wondering if there is a way to add image hosting to the forum so you can just pick to upload your pictures directly to the forum.

Having to go to a separate image hosting site is a pain.

I know my wife's mommy/pregnancy forum has the ability to do this, so I figured I would just suggest it.

What does everyone else think of this??

Yeah I agree that would be nice. Right now I have to upload to facebook and then point to it.

However James is a busy guy so I don't know if he'd really have time to do something like this anytime soon.

Well we already kind of have Image hosting here... We have the Community Fan Art section...

Would it take James much more to have a separate area for just regular pictures??? Would it require more bandwidth or larger servers or anything??? I've never looked into hosting anything, I've always let someone else handle that stuff so I don't know what all is required or needed...

James already does all of this out of his own pocket as it is, I wouldn't feel good about asking him to do something that would cost extra dollars...

I'd feel perfectly fine asking him, as it is a good idea but I'd also feel fine with him saying no.

Most forums don't have it as a feature by default so it would probably have to be an addon that the forum administrator would have to pick up and manually install into the forum script. And yeah it would require more bandwidth costs to the hoster (James) depending on how many images there are, how often they accessed/viewed (by those logged in and random Googling vistors), and the size of each image (if some aren't good with compressing or resizing their images before uploading). I think free hosts are pretty easy enough though, so don't really see a need. Stuff like Photobucket etc. you upload it and it gives you the link to paste right away. I have my own little piece of webspace though I use and upload via FTP.

But hey if James needs help up keeping the board. I'd be glad to help given proper instructions. I've made some basic webpages before but have no idea how's he's got this page setup.

Though I haven't checked it out I was under the impression that you could upload pictures on the Downloads section of the main site. If not then I think it's a feature that should be added. I went to PhotoBucket a few days ago, completely forgetting about trying the Downloads section.

It would be nice to have the option to post pictures directly to this board. God knows I've tried uploading pictures to obscure photo-holders websites and linking them here without much success in the past.

At least I'd like to hear James' opinion on the matter, about whether it can be done or not.

Yep you can do it off the screenshots section.

Lestat is talking about Personal Pictures that we post, Not the Game related pictures...

It would only be right to have James' permission and a separate section before anyone were to post pictures not game related...

Ah so it's more of an etiquette issue. I never tried it so I didn't know there wasn't a general screenshot category . I suppose that could be added to the drop down menu. At least anything Tex is pretty much covered.

Not exactly... In order to host files like regular pictures that we post from time to time it would require a great deal more in storage space and bandwidth...

I hope no one will begrudge me a little "calm down" action.

I guess it would be nice to have a gallery section, but I am okay with using photobucket too. It's a few more steps, but I think that we'd take up a significant amount of bandwidth uploading images.
