We can do it! Project Fedora gets Royal approval!

Yes we can! We can all get together and make things happen. Which is something that Demonlawyer and I discussed at great length when we actually met up in the real world in sunny Royal Kingston-upon-Thames, UK. It wasn't a fun run but we had a lot of fun in the sun with a few drinks down by the river on the quayside.

It was great to meet a new old friend from the boards and get to talk in person to someone about Tex who didn't stare back at you blankly and politely smile and nod. Also with all the excitement of Project Fedora Kickstarter and the dream like frenzy of online activity its produced it made things seem a little more, to answer Mr Thomas Malloy (Yes this is...) real!

One of the things we talked about were pledges and how that was going. We were wondering and thought it would be a good idea to put it out there to the community something that sort of came up in Fred's recent post from Sam;
Seriously, though you might be in for bad luck because of one of these 3 scenarios:

1. Tex gets fully funded and we have no money left over because we all snuck back in at the end and increased our pledges to the max we could afford. Therefore Tex is a success, and we have no money left over for you.
The main points being that if some of us if not all of us were considering upping our pledges and if we were thinking of doing that, were we holding them back for some of the more important landmark figures in the project like 300,000 or 400,000 or maybe even to push it over the magical 450,000! Also wouldn't it be cool if it was one of us from UTM that was the one to get us over the goal line?

Plus if we all shared those ideas and plans we could probably make that happen and make some of us (not mentioning any names  ) feel better about some of the slower days of the campaign knowing that we have some definate boosts coming down the line.

Anyway just some highlights from our little get together which we thought we would like to continue and share with the rest of you all. I'm sure there is much more I have missed out which maybe Demonlawyer can add to the thread. It was great meeting you buddy and we highly recomend it to everyone to meet up and celebrate the return of Tex if at all possible in your region. Hey if a Canadian and a Brit can manage it....We can all do it!

*Speaking from the US* Hail to our Neighbor to the North! We know what you're up to and if you so much as twitch a finger Prince Edward Island(among other areas) is gonna blow sky high.

And to the U.K, the womb which birthed us, didn't want us to leave her skirts and tried to shove us back in, Happy(Belated) Mother's Day and we hope you've enjoyed watching your kid grow up to become the bully of the playground.

And the platypus, you have nothing to do with us whatsoever. But we can't decide what you have to do with ANYTHING, really! So your days are numbered, too!

Oxygen, seriously, stop being everywhere! Just because we have to breathe you doesn't make us friends so back off!

I think you'll find Joel, there are a couple of empty glasses on the table there. Maybe you should have had a few less "beverages" your self or perhaps you need some other kind of glasses!  :P

For all I know you guys just ordered water

Looks like a good day out, wish we all could have been there for a round table discussion on how we can get Tex to take over the world.

I hate cheese makers. At some point they always have to cut it. ba-da-ba - tssss!

And I must say, it's awesome to see you guys meeting up in the real life. If I ever met any of you'd I'd be like Nedry from Jurassic Park meeting Dodson at the beginning of the movie. Order a whole bunch of food and drink and expect you to get the bill. Just fair warning. (No not really. Unless you'd actually really get the bill. Then yeah, really.)

The title "Project Fedora gets Royal approval" made me think I'd see a picture of Queen Elizabeth giving a cheesing Tex Murphy a big ole thumbs up in a photo-op.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
Did someone here make those neato Tex badges? I noticed Sam was wearing one too in her testimonial. We'll have to get the Mid-Atlantic contingent together at some point. I think there are at least 3 other members near me.
Great to *see* you guys in RL.

Hiya redcat, yes Sam had them made up as a surprise gift to everyone who contributed to a story project a while back. So all credit and thanks to Sam 8)

While we're here anyone want to comment on some of the points raised it the original post before they get lost due to a second page  :?:

Is it any better than Kingston, Ontario? :P

I don't know if it will reassure anyone, but I've yet to make my pledge :o Still working on calling out favors left and right, see what I can round up. So I guess there is no doubling the ante for me just yet!

I will remain cautiously anxious for a while still, but not to the point of despair! I still maintain we are in a very decent position. Right now my only concern is hitting 300k. 200k is so last week.

Looks like you had a good time fellas!

Looks like a fun time was had! :) It's been great sunny weather her ein the UK. Maybe a little too intense some days for me but I love the sun shining bright like this.

As for holding back on pledge amounts until certain landmarks are in sight, some have been saying on the Kickstarter comments its better to just put all funds in now (of what is available that is, I know many are going to be getting more funds later). They say that if it reaches past certain points pre-goal it'll encourage others to up their pledge sooner. Also the sooner we reach the goal the more funding we might raise post-goal that will allow them to add the additional paths, game content and hire recognisable names from their contacts they mentioned as stretch goals.

I'm not sure what approach is best but for now I'm going with the suggestions on the Kickstarter comments and on slow days do my best to get others than myself on board (e.g. I started uploading my Kickstarter comics to Deviantart and am going through the old Tex Murphy petition to contact people via Twitter/Facebook/Youtube, there are also Tex Murphy Kickstarter articles on reddit people can upvote, some have also been searching for Tex Murphy youtube videos and commenting on those which got Thomas Malloy back so I guess I might try that someday)

Hi Sai! Would have invited you too but only just figuring out again where everybody is again. Where in the UK are you? We are planning celebration drinks for when we make target so would be cool if we could get as many of us together as possible :D If you don't feel like posting it here feel free to email or PM me. Same goes for anyone else out there? Even those of you in Europe shouldn't be to hard to arrange a mass gathering. Oh and go buy a Euromillions ticket. Its a rollover, sure we can get a pretty good new Tex Trilogy for 72 Million!

Back to the point, with the higher pledges you have many good points there. Its not so much we aren't putting all we can in now. Was also a case of really wrestling with the justifications of giving the extra large amounts vs the real world issue of giving up that kind of money and also timing wise it is more likely that we will have saved or be in a better position to do that nearer the end of the kickstarter anyway. There was much more to it than that but hard to condense an afternoons worth of conversation into a single post. Maybe Demonlawyer can help me better elaborate?

Hey Frank, are you from Kingston, Ontario? Haven't been that way for a long time but it was definitely a lot warmer and Sunnier than my quiet mountain home town over in Calgary.

Good luck with all your favours and rounding up and try upgrading to cautiously optimistic we are in a very decent position and well on our way to 300,000 $$$$ ***200k is so last week*** love it Frank

Its one of those tough calls. I'll back Tex as much as I can, but we were saying that if we in the UK pledged $5000 or more, we also have to factor in a plane ticket. It would be well worth it for a once in a lifetime chance, and it would save a little bit on tax if we could collect in person any bits from the reward tiers.

The other thing we discussed was whether, perhaps to try and encourage higher pledges, the $10,000 tier could have a role with a *very* minor speaking role, eg, five/ten words or less, and that a tier of, say $7500 had a walk on/background role that had no dialogue? Maybe walking out of Rook's pawn shop as Tex walks in etc.

Also with so many people getting paid this week, hopefully we will see a lot more pledges once people are feeling rich again.

I also wonder, when this project hits something like 80 or 90%, there will be a surge of people increasing their pledges to make sure the project happens?

If the project is, say, 90% funded with two days to go, boy would we be nervous, but hopefully loads of people would pledge another $15 etc and we'd see that huge surge that takes us over target. Maybe there's a psychological level where people pull out their wallets again to make sure its funded?
David
You've got a good point about the last rewards requiring a plane ticket. Similar to how many asked for a digital only tier to avoid shipping due to customs charges and all that fuss (hopefully they know to mark it as a Gift to increase the allowed customs amount).

I wonder if they should do a lower tier where you just get to send in a webcam clip to be used as a Vidphone contact. Such as maybe someone who acts as a receptionist who redirects you to the actual contact. Or more money for a bigger vidPhone contact role. Though the webcam quality would need to be good since they'll most likely be doing HD, they'd have to specify you'd need a HD-capable camera. I think some would have that type of camera though and there'd be no plane ticket required to have an acted part in the game.

Also for the 10,000 walk-on role they could allow some to do home-done green screen and send it in via the web. Again the quality would have to be good though which might be tricky. I see some game broadcasters on Twitch doing green screen from their bedroom, some get it perfect others get some transparency issues.

But I don't know if those types of rewards would just cause technical headaches.

However there could be other tiers for just audio narrating roles. I think I remember in one of the games there was a voice narrating the details of the Vidphone information service which you could use to get faxes detailing people/suspects etc. If I remember right there was no image, just voice and the logo of the service?

I like your idea for a cheaper role without dialogue too.
