Living under a rock or just plain stupid? (888 and more)

Hello all,

I'm really sorry for this thread, but I really need to have a thing or two clarified.

I may have lived under a rock for weeks, not checked the board intensely enough or maybe I'm just plain stupid ... but I keep wondering how it all began with all the mentions of Tex Murphy Mutant League, the Crazy 888's Chapter and Fedora Femme Fatales? It seems to have missed my attention completely, and I keep scratching my head as to what these are exactly.

Could someone please elaborate for me? And it's okay to call me ignorant or whatever as long as I end up smarter than I am right now :-) A plain explanation in this thread would be nice instead of referencing to other threads :-)

The Crazy 888's started out as the Mutant League. It was started by a backer named Jester who proposed that everyone end their pledge with a 888 number (even if it was only $8.88), with the 888 representing a mutant with 6 eyes in that pattern. Their original signature is as follows:

As for the Fedora Femme Fatales, that was started by our own Jen and Redcat in the chat room two nights ago. They were trying to come up with a catchy phrase that represented women using a T or an M, but then decided on the F from Fedora, and the rest is history. Jen was the first, closely followed by Redcat, et al. And boy did it catch on!

Here's a graphic history of it.

 I actually didn't even know what it really meant when Redcat asked me to make this last night!

Well shoot I made that from an audio clip I had. I can make this into a audio/gif thingy easily, but the clip I made it from is at home, and I'm at work right now :?
