It's a deal a day site.plumgas wrote:just looks like a site for on line auction
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WootWoot's tagline is "One Day, One Deal." Generally, Woot offers one product per day until its stock of that item is sold out, or until the product is replaced at midnight Central Time with the next offering. If a product sells out during its run, the next item still does not appear until midnight, except during Woot-Off promotions. Products are never announced beforehand.
Woot pioneered the one-deal-a-day business model, which has been implemented by many web-based retailers since. Customers may buy up to three of the day's item, although the site has occasionally limited product quantity to one per customer.
Except for Shirt.woot, items are shipped only to the United States. All items, regardless of size or weight, are shipped for a flat fee.

The treasure hunt seems to be called a "Woot Off". It's on the right side of the main page:plumgas wrote:well I am quite confused- what has the treasure hunt go to do with this web site

Well this is just great. Your old corsair companion Crapbeard has scattered pieces of his treasure maps across the face of this Woot Off. Help me piece together my maps, and I'll give ye a share of me ample booty! Y'harrr. Such a stereotype of a pirate be I...

They have woot-offs on a semi-regular basis where they sell many items in a day. Basically they sell an item until it's sold out and then sell a new one and just keep going. The coveted woot-off prize among wooters is the bag of crap. This costs $5 and is a random assortment of items. Sometimes you get crap, but sometimes you get really good stuff. The items are almost always worth more than $5 (but, you may or may not want the items). Usually the bag of crap appears at a random time during the woot-off. However, sometimes they have other ways of selling the bags of crap. One time they created a video game and if you got to a certain level you got to buy a bag of crap. This time, there is a treasure hunt that reveals a url that lets you buy the bag of crap.
Yes, this is very odd and a bit obssessive-compulsive, but wooters are odd folks (myself included).

Bag of crap is a great name.
Shame they don't ship international (though I saw some offer a proxy service which I used to do for buying things from Japan etc. But be careful of the costs and be sure they're reputable).

I'd like a robot vacuum cleaner. Too bad they're still expensive. Sci-fi films lied to me about how I'd be living right now.
Anyway I don't think the deal of the day shown on the top of the frontpage necessarily means thats what you get in this Treasure Hunt according to dcat. I'm sure for some it's the fun of the hunt.

No, normally woot has one deal each day.
On a woot off the deal changes as items sell out. (Right now, for instance, it is a 47" LCD TV.)
The items in a bag of crap are random. You don't know what you're going to get until it shows up at your house. You could get a robotic vacuum. You could get something better or worse. That's the intrigue of the bag of crap. It could be great or it could be crap.
