Who is Tex Murphy?
For a while now I've been doing something I think more people should be doing: whenever I find myself in a situation where nobody's looking and I have the capability to write something randomly somewhere like on an office folder or a university chalkboard, I tend to write 'Who is Tex Murphy?'... Because now, who knows how many eyes will see these words and wonder to themselves "Who is Tex Murphy". Maybe these people will search online to find out, and perhaps spark an interest in Tex, buy all the games off ebay, join forums to try and figure out how to play them on modern systems, and Voila! -The Tex fanbase grows, thus making the chances higher that a new game would be successful...
So what does everybody think?

That is a good idea. I think I'll start doing that now. Good call. Later.

My signature on another message board (gamefaqs) is: If you like adventure games, and dont know who Tex is. Ask me.
I just started using that last week so nobody has asked yet. But I have high hopes.

Sorry to dig up a old thread. But today, I was bored sitting in class, so this idea come to me. I wrote "Who is Tex Murphy?" on the back of the desk infront of me. I think I'll do that on more desks at school in my other classes. Anyway, thats all. Later.

I usually go for blackboards in abandon classrooms, the backs of seats in lecure halls or those foldable desks, depending on my mood...

that is a neat idea... i've seen it used as a succesful tactic for making obscure things more well known. i guess even in the 70's before all the LOTR hype people were writing "Frodo Lives" on New York subway walls... not that i'm suggesting graffitti or anything.
also we could learn a lot from the fans of firefly/serenity. they took a cancelled 12 aired episodes series and turned it into a major hollywood film with their dedication and hard work (making EVERYONE buy dvds of the series, placing it in front at stores, hanging up signs, doing major internet marketing, and tons of other guerilla tactics, trying to make a stand against corporate america to let them know that we want quality series and not more reality shows, etc etc).
of course i'm not that dedicated. but eh. i think their work was inspiring nontheless (i saw a documentary on their work at a recent sci fi convention).
and the DVD era is giving rise to popularity in older series vs. newer ones... showing people liked what they had before better. it'd be cool if they rereleased old games so they could see if the same trend held. (i'd love the old 8 bit games downloaded on my newer PC). it's made all sorts of powers that be consider bringing back old series since it's making so much money in dvd sales (like V the series, and a number of others)...
anywho
