ActiveX problems with Windows XP Service Pack 2

Just passing along some info for those with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I've had some problems logging on to several Web pages ever since downloading the April Security update (KB912812) for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2. The following message: (Click to run an ActiveX control on this webpage) keeps popping up when attempting to open a webpage that has embedded sound files. Well, it seems that Microsoft has come up with a patch for the problem: The IE Compatibility Patch reverts the IE Active X update behavior contained in the April Security update (KB912812). I just don't understand why Microsoft didn't advise people of the problem and the patch. They could have included the patch with there security updates, but they didn't! I had to spend a good part of the day just trying to figure out why I was getting the "ActiveX control" message.

Here's the link to the patch: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Alternatively, there's Opera :D

(Then someone says Firefox or whatever, then some bright bulb suggests Linux. You see where this is going pretty early) ;)

But I still prefer Opera :)

I guess this is my cue:

Try Firefox! It's amazingly customizable! Opera's better than IE, too, though.

I know we're drifting off topic again here, but the thing I like about Opera is the ability to zoom the entire page, images, text and frames - handy for high resolution displays. Having said that, Firefox is my browser of choice, being highly configurable (extensions, toolbars, window sessions, tabs etc) and it's a bit more standards-compatible.

Once I think of a plus point for IE i'll let you know.

Sadly, the plus point of IE is the same of the entire microsoft output: things are made for them. There are websites that get all messy if you aren't on IE, but things were worse, and the other browsers have improved much on that issue. Today I install Firefox on new computers of the family (or re-installations of windows), disappear with the IE link and rename the Firefox one to "INTERNET"

Okay, Cub, what's the deal with the flowers. You're not turning into a pansy, are you? (Hey! Not a bad pun!)

Just one little obervation, and I'll quit flooding the board with my messages. Two, actually. What I'm going to do here is unprecedented.

One, this message is to Cub...

I just wanted to let you know, I figured out that if you want to look or sound manly, period, all you have to do is play the old NFL stock music that they use for thier flashbacks. I have a bisexual friend, (Who, not that it matters, but, who is bisxual and I am not.. not! NOT! God he like rolls his eyes everytime I make that perfectly clear ... Am I homophobic? No I'm same gender gentaliaphobic. ) and I played that as I told his life story, and much to his chagrin, it actually made him sound manly. Good ole NFL Stock Film Footage Music. For the man in all of us.

And finally message two, to Jen! Yes I am answering your post in one thread, in a completely different thread! Why, because ... I have no clue. I like to disrupt things I guess ... So .. anyway ... have you ever ... noticed .. I love ... to ... use ... the period ... but always ... in a combination of three???

Yeah, I guess I will hang around here a bit now that I'm unemployed. It's not like I was fired or anything like that. I just, decided that I'm not the kind of person who wants to be behind the wheel of an eighteen wheeler, and have the lives of everyone I drive by constantly in this profession, in my hands. To much responsibility. If I were to kill someone, or hurt someone, I'd never forgive myself. So I decided to switch out from and 18 wheeler semi, to a smaller version of one, a straight truck. They're smaller, more manuverable, and I feel more comfortable behind the wheel on one. I have more control it seems. But oh, do I know what the depression thing is like. I thought I'd enjoy having time off, and let me tell you, it's not like the vacation I thought'd be. I'm bored off my rocker.
But yes, I'm here to shed my very own unique view of lovliness on the board once more.

Mr. Malloy: Is this a good thing for the Tex Murphy board? It depends on how you look at me I guess. If you find me funny, and I bust your gut sometimes, then yes, enjoy my new found freedom with me. If you think I waste space by typing inane dialouge, then no, you're going to be like "Get a job Bum!" ... Either way Mr. Malloy is here, and will be here for a very, very ...long time. And that's the bottom line ... because Mr. Malloy said so. If you smell what he's cooking. Enough is enough and it's time for a change, because I'm the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Have a nice day!

That's how you cut a promo. Okay time to get some lunch, and look through the wanted ads.
