The Black Dahlia opens tomorrow

Hey guys, The Black Dahlia opens tomorrow (at least around here in Detroit.) Check out the trailer:

Caution, there is an advertisement before the trailer. Anyway, this should be a movie all TM fans can warm up to. Check it out.
I loved the Black Dahlia adventure game. I can only hope the movie will inspire a sequel.
I never played the adventure game but I guess I should see if I can find it ... it seems to be a nice movie with a great talented cast as well. I just hope the movie can be one of the exceptions when it comes to bringing computer games to the movie screen seeing as how most movies done from computer games have failed miserably

That's true, but in this case, the movie isn't based on the computer game. The Black Dahlia was a fantastic and well-known real-life murder case in California back in the 40's. The game and the movie are both based on the real-world events of that murder, but otherwise have nothing else to do with each other.

Meanwhile, I must say that The Black Dahlia is an incredibly good game although some of the puzzles border on the impossible. It is epic in size and scope.
If I remember right, the Black Dahlia game is more to do with Hitler/Nazis and their interest in hunting down historical/occult artifacts and so on (something that I think the 3rd Indiana Jones film touches upon!)... than this murder case. Although its probably mentioned it goes into other myths and legends and cases around the time. Been awhile since I played it.
And yes it's a fantastic game.

Wasting little time, I went to see the 12:45 showing this afternoon. Very cool. If you are a Brian De Palma fan it has all the things you expect in a De Palma film.

There were many elements that reminded me of the game even though the story was significantly different. For instance, none of the occult stuff was in the movie. The story is based on James Ellroy's novel (which I haven't read.)

It really makes me want to play the game again. But I think, even with a walkthrough, it will take a month to play. I wonder what's the quickest anyone's gotten through it.
I've gotten through it about 13 hours.
I started it in 1994 and I'm hoping to finish next year; that gives me an "even" 13 years to complete.

And, if you believe that, I'm also selling the Golden Gate Bridge to any interested parties.
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
I played the game, too. I enjoyed it, but I didn't like the ending.

Oh, gosh, I'm feeling nostalgic about the old adventure games again!
Never too late for coffee, never too early for beer.
Jim...I think I'd like to buy your bridge. :D

That's very impressive. Sometimes I get hopelessly lost in the sewers for days and end up quitting and starting over. The other two puzzles that give me a world of trouble are "folding the invatation" and "the gem".

What do you know about the gem? I hope you know what I'm talking about. It's a multi-faceted gem-shaped object with runes on each face. I was unable to find any useful clue in the game for that. Ended up using a walkthrough.
I played the game, too. I enjoyed it, but I didn't like the ending.
I was just talking to my daughter today about the ending. It had a certain irony to it, but I was I didn't like it one bit.

Although the scene just before the ending, with the 'eyeball' was really cool.
Ah the Dahlia casing. First off you can automatically solve it by typing in "gemstone" or press "reset" if you want to reset the pieces. There are several clues to solving the gem which are automatically written your notembook. (However one symbol is missing from the Lizard Book notation so you'll have to go by the symbols in that inventory picture for that. What you do is piece together the order of the gem pieces to make it read by the order of the symbols in your notebook and there is only one correct solution to make it all go together. After visting all 4 tombs in the monastery you should have everything you need and the order of the symbols placement can be straight across left to right or have 1 symbol on the top and go 1 or 2 levels down as well as going right. Hope that helps.
And I agree the ending didnt give closure which is why I'd like another game.
