So I did it. I finally got around to it. I avoided it like the plague until I finally couldn't keep away from it any longer, but I did it.

I got around to seeing 'Snakes on a Plane'.

I'm not easily surprised when it comes to movies, very few movies can spring a surprise on me, but... seriously... There were so many things I did not see coming. And I'm also not squeamish when it comes to movies, I laughed my way through Peter Jackson's first two films back when I was 13 or 14, and I've seen countless things since then, and I'm considering myself hardcore as to what will make me flinch (or rather, not) when I'm watching a movie.

I jumped. And I flinched. I've not done that in years. While it's a camp sort of film with nothing but massive amounts of internet hype behind it, and of course, a good amount of violence, snakes, and Samuel L. Jackson, it's not a very good motion picture. But I jumped. And I flinched. And that's something that movies never make me do anymore.

So I give this one a two thumbs up and a "HELL YEAH!!" for being so singularly special to me.

-Fred

PS: Anyone remember 'The Ring'? I laughed my way through the entire film and got a bruised shoulder from my (then) girlfriend for it. Actual horror movies are just plain see-through stupid, imho. If anyone thinks they know of a scary horror film, please let me know. I'd love to experience the darker side of movie-induced emotions again. Thanks!

I'd say the scariest movies I've seen have been "The Thing" and "In The Mouth of Madness". Both directed by John Carpenter. Also, the Japanese original that is being turned into "Pulse" was surprisingly awesome. It actually had a deeper meaning to it. And the dead people weren't trying to kill us off after all.

One of the creepiest movies I've seen is 'the Changeling' with George C. Scott - I highly recommend it. Last time I saw it I was 15 (now I'm 23), so I may not find it as scary if I watched it now - so I won't, but I still highly recommend it! -Let me know what you think :)

As a kid, in the 60's, it was "Invaders From Mars" that gave me nightmares. As an adult, "Alien" made me ache with fear.

The nightmares from "Invaders" were really quite disturbing. One of the "characters" of the movie was this big bulbous head with octopus tentacles encased in a glass sphere. My nightmare was that I was surrounded by dozens of them, wherever I looked. So, I thought, just close your eyes. . .but my eyelids had holes in them, so I still saw the bulbous monsters!!!! Ok, I thought, I'll cover my eyes with my hands. . .BUT MY HANDS HAD HOLES IN THEM TOO, SO I STILL SAW THE MONSTERS!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!

Yeah I imagine how frightening that can be GarySogar, imagination can be a terrible thing sometimes!

You reminded me of another film that really creeped me out, its "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".... the whole paranoia thing and trying to fight the inevitable... pretty scary.

It's really funny how time can change movies, because the scariest movie I ever watched when I was a kid, is now a laughfest for me now.

The second Evil Dead movie, with the hero Ashe, scared me to death. It's more comical now then anything else, but at the age of 8, seeing that movie gave me nightmares of my hand turning on me. See, right around that time, I found out the hard way what a middle finger was, (I saw my mother smiling and giving it to my stepdad one night, so I figured it was a geasture of friendliness. A night later, my step dad was fixing the radio, finally got it working, and I just flipped him the bird, and said "Way to go!" ... God, that sucked.), so even THAT part of the movie gave me nightterrors.

But the absolute scariest part of the movie for me as a kid.

"I buried her. God forgive me, I buried her in the cold dirt of the fruit cellar"

And her old decrepid, rancid hand shoots out from the floor ... and Ashe screams like a girl.

And so did I ...
