This email arrived in my inbox today. Please have a laugh and a gander.

"THE DESK OF CHRIS JONES
BILL AND EXCHANGE,DEPARTMENT
AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK.

Dear Friend,

First, I must solicit your confidence in this transaction; this is by
virtue of its nature as being utterly "CONFIDENTIAL AND TOP SECRET".
Though I know that a transaction of this magnitude will make any one
apprehensive and worried, but I am assuring you that all will be well at
the end of the day.

I came to know of you through private search for a reliable and
reputable person to handle this confidential transaction that involves the
transfer of a huge sum of money in a dormant account in my bank to a
foreign account requiring maximum confidence.

THE PROPOSITION: I wish to know if we can work Together.I would like
you to stand as next of kin to my deceased client, who was among the
people that lost their life in Egypt air crash 1999 ,some years ago with
the wife .

He made some deposits to my bank, and died without any registered next
of kin and as such the funds now have an open beneficiary mandate.More
over it appears you are related to him by the virtue of your names.

If you are interested you do let me know so that I can give you
comprehensive details on what we are to do. I urgently hope to get your
response as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Chris Jones."

...Yes. I know. Interesting coincidence. So that's how they're funding the new Tex-games eh? Just kidding :)

You know, if it's a gag. Fine. It's funny.

But if that is a truthful message, I would so be forwarding that to the F.B.I., or the equivelent thereof.

I'm a funny guy, and I like humor, and nothing personal to you Fred, because I particularly like your brand of humor ...

But that made me sick to my stomach; the letter sent to you ... What kind of guy would be that Fn dirty?!

Just another spam mail, too many variants of it to mention. But the most famous is the Nigerian scam: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/nigeria.asp
I guess too many people know about the Nigerian one because it seems its been changed to the "African Development Bank" based on a Google search.

like this one<
and here<
someone doing a commentary on it<

Odd though how it picked up a name that related to your interests. A spam bot must of trawled here or somewhere to pick up a Tex Murphy related name.... Weird.

Interesting coincidence.

Strangely enough, I get emails such as that one up to two times a year or so; except in the ones I get, the grammar is a lot worse. I usually laugh for a few seconds, and then think about the kind of idiot the writer of such an email takes me for. Then I delete it and move on with my day. :D

Oh. Heh heh. Okay. Yeah, so now that it's fake. Um, hoorah!

<-- would be the idiot that recieved that mail, and make a stink out of it.

Those emails are illegal as well. I hate scammers.

As hard as it is to beleive, they scan hundreds of people every day. Think about it, they probably send out tens of thousands of emails to people and you are bound to get a couple of goulable folks.

You hear stories of it all the time... hence why I am thankful to be computer literate... and my family is thankful for that too. the amount of times I get my dad phoning up and saying "you think this is legit"... the usual response is: "No dad, nobody sells a plasma high definition television for $300!".

there are millions of same Chris Jones all over the world but not related.

Like me for example, there is a lot of surname Patton but we aren't related. It's funny, if i see someone name Ryan Patton standing next to me in a line. I will laugh and would be scary to see another person with same name.
