As for the games already recommended...did someone recommend Zork? Isn't that the text adventure? Or Return to Zork? Also more text?
I haven't played that many adventure games so, I only have a top four.
My top four would be:
The Pandora Directive
Day of the Tentacle
Full Throttle
Grim Fandango
My least favorite adventure games, or bottom four:
Congo
Blade Runner
The 7th Guest
The 11th Hour
Now then, I have to mention...I think I've only played ten adventure games, the only one missing would be the new "Lost" game on the xbox-360. That gets a middle ground. Also, since Overseer got a 6/10 in my book, it doesn't make either list.

Did anyone ever finish and enjoy Lighthouse? I remember playing the demo that came with Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love For Sail and thinking it was pretty neat at the time - I just never got back to it

Yeah I remember the movements in Ripper being limited, I didn't care for that at all either... But was still a good game... Some of the puzzles were hard...
What about the Myst series??? I never really got into it, but I saw Myst IV on a shelf some where recently...

Lighthouse was a game that indeed had it's own atmosphere and feeling. I loved it all the way through the first time, and many times after that. If I could get it to work on XP I'd do it all over again. I miss it.
To compare it to a tv-show, it's sorta like Dexter. Darker than you'd think, but not in the way you'd expect, and with it's own characteristic feel. Also, great fun.

Maybe you could ask Nilo to see if he could get it to work... That man works magic...
Anyone know anything about Baldur's Gate and it's 3 off spring??? Is it any good???

Only play Baldur's Gate on the PC. Avoid the console versions.

That's fine, I was only considering it on PC, but is it worth going through the hassle to get it and getting it to play on modern systems, I've read as much as I could find about it, but those Auction Ads don't give you much detail into the game, just the plot... I want to know what it is like, it sounded good, but those plot summaries can be very misleading...

I tried Lighthouse a couple of years ago, but like others, couldn't get it to work on Win XP, so had to give it up.
The only other game I wanted to play but had to give up due to software conflicts (at least that I can remember) is Dark Side of the Moon. As I recall, my graphics card was a tiny bit too good for the game so the dialog options never showed up on screen and you couldn't get it to save and load a game. Sadly, the company that made it had very poor customer service and told me I needed a slower computer.

I haven't tried any of my older games yet, except for the Tex games... I'm sure I'll run into problems with some of them...
My biggest hopes for working besides the Tex games are Ripper, Harvester and Stonekeep... I've really missed those games...
Anyone have any experience with these 3 games??? Will they work with the Dosbox???

I thought Runaway: A Road Adventure looked very pormising when I started playing it... but alas, it turned out to be terrible... one of the most illogical adventure games I'd ever played. Maybe I am just losing patience.

Nah Cub, i think that's what partially led to the downfall of Adventure games. Puzzles without context or logic (plus the games constantly becoming niche because of dedicated adventure game fans complaining about things being too easy.... but that's another topic).
Since Grim Fandango (which i'd call the genre's last great dying breath), there have been quite a few great titles i've loved playing.
The Longest Journey
Syberia
The Pheonix Wright series
Sam & Max: Season 1
Oh and on the topic of Myst, it's a 'love it or hate it' series (i do recall discussions here before on the subject), but i reckon the immersive-ness plus the use of sound and visual puzzles, make the series quite special (now if i could just beat Riven. ARGH!)

Don't Laugh, but a few months back I started playing Zork I: The Great Underground Empire again. Although it is all text based (Like a Choose your own Adventure book) I still find it entertaining. It was the first adventure game I played.
I wish I still had the Zorkmid to prove it.

Now that I just mentioned the really good Overclocked in another thread, I´m gonna bring up another new adventure game in the making ( Should be out in a couple of months -fingers crossed): Memento Mori
http://www.mementomori-game.de/
The official website went online now and has some interesting information on the game, the story etc. On the upper right you can change the language of the site to english.
Great music by the way, it sounds like Gabriel Knight after a while.
It comes from the same publisher as gray matter ( like tons of other adventures aswell

).
Might be a nice little filler until Gray Matter ,A vampyre story and Mata Hari ( From Hal Barwood himself, the man that was in Charge for the classic lucas arts Indiana Jones adventures Indy3 and Indy4)
